As I reported earlier, this one came from left field, be patient with me please guys.
Paperwork has all gone off, waiting for confirmation from this one. Don't forget League clubs can still make loan signings so expect a few of the younger lads to go, i.e. Naughton and Walker. Cudicini may go out on loan in an emergency loan deal to a Championship club, will give you all a proper summary shortly.

Van Der Vart hopefully is going to be a Spurs player with Premier League approval.

Has come about after Fabiano signed a new deal with Sevilla. He was the one we wanted, make no mistake about that. Could not agree personal terms with him.

Have been trying to post for a while, but have not been able to get on, probably too many on the server at one time?!

Will summarise tomorrow.
Babel is not the big name player we all wanted but, nonetheless, he is someone I've always thought would be great at Spurs. Had we signed him from Ajax before Liverpool I'm sure he'd be a great player now. Rafa ruined him but if Harry can inspire him then we could be onto a winner.

It seems to compete with the big clubs, you have to do business like the big clubs. You might not agree with it but it seems that is the only way of doing business. I think everyone here is a little disappointed with how this transfer window has gone so far and it seems like it's not going to get any better.

We don't seem to be able to close out a deal for any kind of player worth signing. Yes we were great last season but Liverpool were also shit, as were Man City. There is no guarantee they will slip up like that this season. Yet they have signed Joe Cole, Yaya Toure and David Silva respectively. Yes money talks but there are still some very talented players out there who are interested in playing football too. We are not a poor club, we are just traditionally very savvy with our money.

We have to look at all the big clubs in world football and look at how they do business. Barcelona completed the signing of Mascherano this week and did it in a way that a lot of people would disagree with but they got their man. Fair enough they wanted Fabregas but didn't get him but everyone now knows where Cesc actually wants to be and most likely will be next summer. It was the same way Real Madrid got Cristiano Ronaldo last summer. But the Premier League clubs are also very guilty of these tactics too. Man Utd, did it to us with Carrick and then Berbatov. Liverpool did it to us to get Robbie Keane. Arsenal did it last summer to convince Chamahk to run his contract down so they could get him for free this summer. Chelsea did it to Ashley Cole and John Obi Mikel.

My point is, we are to respectful of other clubs and do things on their terms to much. This is the business side of football so we should make signings like a business and do everything in our power to get the players we want. It might not make us very many friends but they would not hesitate to do it to us. We should have been more forceful with our deals and convince the player of our ambitions. You won't all agree with it but if we want to be a "Big Club" we have to do business like a "Big Club".

The problem with selling before buying

Having to "sell before we buy" has seemingly become the new catchphrase over recent transfer windows. I understand why clubs feel this way,...

Having to "sell before we buy" has seemingly become the new catchphrase over recent transfer windows. I understand why clubs feel this way, especially whilst trying to operate in this weakened economy of the past couple years, but I genuinely feel that this stance causes more problems than its worth.

I guess clubs believe that, in order to add to their squad, they have to free up space in that squad first. Harry more or less said exactly that the other day when he rhetorically asked what he could possibly want with 5 strikers. There is also the financial side of the argument that, if we want to pay £10-£15m on a player, then we need to bring in as much of that money before we can spend it, and we do that by selling players who no longer feature in our future plans.

However, I have a MAJOR issue with the whole "sell before you buy" stance, & the rumour that Jenas has refused a move to Stoke City because he would prefer to stay and fight for his place is evidence of those issues I have (even if it is true or not, it still illustrates the point I'm making nicely).

What this stance does is put all the cards into the player's hand. The club think they are covering their back but actually they are making things much harder for themselves. "Selling before you buy" strikes me as very shallow solution to protecting a club's position. Basically, it makes it far too easy for your players to dig their heels in and the Jenas rumour shows exactly how it can work against a us. With squads limited to 25 players, and with a "sell before you buy" policy, a transfer-listed player knows that all he has to do is refuse any offers & he can stay at his club. He might not be currently in that club's plans but, if he refuses to leave, he forces himself into consideration. However, if we had bought first & got exactly who we wanted in, then the transfer-listed player would HAVE to consider other options as he would become the 26th player in a 25-man squad.

you can also then focus all your attention on selling that player for the best price without having to force yourself into doing it quickly to allow yourself enough time to replace him. The only problem is with the wages, but it would only mean paying an extra player for a few weeks and I guarantee that, if a player is not in that 25-man squad, he will be itching to get out the club as fast as possible, rather than happily playing silly-buggrs by refusing to leave.

I don't understand why money in regards to the transfer fees should even come into it either. You will still get the money whether you sell the player before you buy another or after, it makes no difference. Besides, we should have PLENTY of cash in our coffers for us not to have to scrape £5m from here & £4m from here just so that we can spend £15m over there.

Tbh, I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the prudent tippy-toeing with which we have approached the last 2 transfer windows. I know we've spent lots of money with little reward in the past but that should not mean that we never spend again. In fact, it should only show that we should spend it more wisely but not more penuriously. If we could justify spending over £16m on flipping Darren Bent how are we possibly umming & ahhing over spending a similar amount on Luis Fabiano or our other supposed striking targets? I know Harry says he is happy with his squad but even Alex Ferguson strengthened his team after he won the treble, Harry cannot seriously expect me to buy that we don't need to because we finished 4th last year and qualified for Europe. We simply do not have the calibre of players to succeed on 2 fronts and I am pretty distraught that we have, so far, failed to really push on. EVERYONE could see that we desperately need a player who can make us more ruthless in the final 3rd, whether that is a striker or an AM or both, and who do we bring in? Another DM & an ageing central defender . . .

Of a transfer window... the position we need to take us to the next level is a bloody striker! We've been linked with every fookin player in the world, so much speculation, that it got us all winded up, for that "special signing". I'm afraid if we don't buy a class lone striker, we won't take it up to the next level, being the manutd, chelsea, and arsenal fear factor. With this squad, im sorry, but the chances of getting top four are very slim, if we do not strengthen it in the front line.

We got into champions league, and we are all happy that finally were getting that special signing, but im afraid we wont get that this window. This was one of the most important transfer windows for spurs! And we are messing it up with the lack of transfers, that strengthen the starting 11. d

We can get top four this year again, just like last year, but mancity will be strong, even though they lost to sunderland, we lost to wigan! And we wont knock manu, chelsea, or arsenal out of the top four. I feel that Chelsea, Manu and Arsenal are in a different level than us. They play the right system, that grinds out the wins. They have the winning mentality, that we might not have, yet.

For ex. Chelsea, play with 2 more defensive midfielders essien, and mikel, that allows lampard to get up as much as he wants, because he doesnt have to worry about defending. He does get back, but rarely.

We still play a 442, mostly I think because harry loves that formation, and we dont have the players to play a 451, or a formation with a lone striker, which chelsea, manu, arsenal, mancity ,and liverpool do. They all have worldclass strikers, that can play by themselves. People say we need a target man up front, to hold the ball up, but tevez is bloody 5"7 and plays that amazing. We need a player up there that can do everything, it doesnt matter about height. When tevez was at manu, he never played a lone striker, always with rooney, and mancity now use him as a lone striker...funny init?

We have Defoe, who is selfish, and probably will fail at the lone striker, because he cant hold the ball up and tries to get a foul, 20 times a game, that the ref doesnt call. Crouch, will never be a lone striker, he is good for changing the game 70th minute if we are down, or need a goal. Keane, his days are over. Pav, can become our best striker, but he needs a good partnership, and i think keane can do that even though he isnt the player he was, but he is clever, and it showed against young boys.

Harry needs to stop playing his favorites, because IMO, pav is twice the player crouch is, but just needs a run of games. But maybe thats why harry is the manager and im writing this post.

So come on harry, get that bloody signing, we have nothing to lose, except top four..
