TOTTENHAM WANT TO SIGN LIGUE 1 DEFENDER IN THE SUMMER

Following the unimpressive displays that Tottenham Hotspur’s defenders have shown this season, the club’s manager José Mourinho has already gotten to work and has started drawing up a list of defensive targets he will be looking to sign in the summer. The first name on the list of summer defensive options is Lille’s young defender Sven Botman who has been sighted as the man to bring more defensive toughness to the Spurs team.

Due to Tottenham’s poor defensive showing this season, they have slipped down to ninth place even though they were once at the top of the league table. Their lack of organization at the back has seen them concede a lot of goals this season, including three against table-toppers Manchester City and five against top-four hopefuls Everton.

France Football is now reporting that the London club have prioritized the signing of 21-year-old Botman who they believe is not only young but also has the top characteristics of a good defender. Botman has established himself as Lille’s first-choice central defender in recent weeks after putting in excellent performances on a consistent basis this campaign.

He joined Lille from Dutch league outfit Ajax and has since cemented himself in the starting eleven. He has featured in up to 32 games for Lille this season and appears to be getting better and better as he plays each game.

Tottenham are not the only side interested in the defender, however, as they face stiff competition against Premier League Champions Liverpool who have already made inquiries about the defender. Mourinho will be hoping the Spurs board can get the deal over the line as quickly as possible before a bidding war starts.
