It was quite a disgraceful game. Dutch fans put up with the style of play because it's been so long since they've reached a final but the thuggery in the final was disgusting.

It's bad enough being beautiful losers in 74 and 78, being the thugs that deservedly lost to the team that played beautiful football 2010 has a poignant sense of irony to it. I'm not sure if I'll ever see Holland win a World Cup in my lifetime.

Their youth system has gone to shi+, Spain and Germany produce far better youth players now, and more importantly, their domestic leagues are good enough that the players can develop at the clubs that trained them, so they're ready for the big stage, Germany's system being a case in point for that.

Former Barcelona youth team players alone could probably fill a squad that'd push for the title, considering the players that have been through there include Jose Reina, Mikel Arteta, Busquets, GDS, iniesta, Bojan, messi, Motta, puyol, valdes, xavi.

Holland won the under 21 world cup like Germany did, but the weakness of their domestic league meant too many of their good youth players left. But all the players who made moves to big clubs are all nowhere near the senior team. Maceo Ritgers, Daniel De Ridder, Ryan Babel, Royston Drenthe, who?

The ones that stayed with their clubs in Holland are now in the setup, like Van Der Wiel, Elia, De Zeeuw, Affellay. The next world cup will be the last for the Golden generation of Sniejder, Van Der Vaart, Robben and Van Rapist. Unless something changes, it may be a while before we see them competing at this level again.
