Also, if the player has the experience that I think is necessary, then his teammates will look toward him naturally - that is why I feel the player has to be at least 27 & has to have played at a reasonably big club in various competitions, as well as International experience, for most of his career.
The reason I keep dropping Palombo's name is because I truly think he fits that bill perfectly - he doesn't know how to play any other way. He captain's Sampdoria because he plays with inspiration, rather than playing that way because he is captain - if you get my drift.
Someone mentioned Scott Parker earlier - he has what it takes as a player but with no England experience & no experience in European competition I just am not sure he could do the job, & the same would go for Bullard
Anyway, I discounted Tymoschuk because I thought there was no chance of him leaving Bayern but, as cmon has pointed out, that could be a possibility after all!
So Palombo & Tymoschuk would be my 2 top targets - I just think we would have to wait for the summer for either one.
As for the 'leader' to be British - we just don't have those sorts of players on these shores who would be available. I think Scott Brown could become that sort of player 1 day, but he needs to play somewhere outside of Scotland ASAP, otherwise he will never get the experience necessary.
