Although a UK work permit hasn't been obtained yet for Khumalo as he has not appeared in the required 75% of competitive internationals during the last 2 years, which is a pre-requisite for automatic acceptance by the UK Home Office. Subsequently Spurs have to make a special application, but his youth and World Cup appearances should help to sway the UK authorities.

The clubs and player have agreed terms.

Khumalo is strongly fancied to become the next Bafana Bafana captain.
Good to hear, hopefully the signing will help grow the brand and provide a nice bench asset.

South African Defender Bongani Khumalo One Step Closer To Tottenham Hotspur Deal - Report

Bafana Bafana defender Bongani Khumalo has moved closer to realising his dream of playing in England after both SuperSport United and Tottenham Hotspur agreed on a transfer fee.

      Sep 23, 2010 300 PM

Khumalo jetted off out of the country today and is set to meet his manager Glyn Binkin in London where they will discuss personal terms with Spurs.

According to a reliable Kickoff.com source close to the deal, the English Premiership side have already agreed on a R17-million transfer fee which will allow the Manzini-born defender a chance to move to White Hart Lane when the transfer window re-opens in January.

"Tottenham has requested that Khumalo be allowed to train with them again when the SuperSport United fixture calendar allows him to travel to England.

"SuperSport's next game in on October 16 and that is why they allowed him to take the trip to England today," the source said.

Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Spurs close on Khumalo deal

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has revealed that a deal to sign South Africa defender Bongani Khumalo is almost done.

The 23-year-old had a successful trial at White Hart Lane in the summer and will complete his £1.5million move from South African side Supersports when the transfer window opens in January.

His arrival will be a significant boost to Redknapp, who has seen Michael Dawson join fellow centre-back Jonathan Woodgate on the long-term injury list this season.

"I think we've done a deal for him. We're in the process of doing a deal for him," said Redknapp.

"He's not expensive. We had him over on trial and we like him. "He's got potential and we've got a tie up with the club Supersports so we've taken him on.

"It will be a great chance for the kid. He's a great lad. He comes from a poor background and he's desperate for a chance and we're going to give him a chance."

I think this can be a good signing, i've been reading a little about him and the general consensus is that he's on the ascend. I watched a couple of interviews with him and he seems to be a bright guy, I hope he gets some playing time.

P.S. African players seem to enjoy international football more then others.

I would love to see an African country win a World Cup. You would think Nigeria would be the most likely to do it in the years to come, growing economy, 8th in population in the world and they love their football.
