In the old days a "Big Club" was one that regularly did well in Europe , had a history of Winning Cups and occasionally attracted world class players .
However since the start of the Premier League , we have underperformed and lagged behind several clubs including our nearest neighbours .
That's why times are so exciting right now , with so many forward steps being made to ensure that we remain a top performing team for many years .
My personal viewpoint is that only the regular top 4 teams in the premier league and those that do well in Europe have the right to call themselves "Big" clubs . We have to do well every year .
It is also my personal opinion that Newcastle , Aston Villa & Everton are deluding themselves if they think that they are still big clubs . I mean Newcastle haven't won anything serious since 1969 ferchrissakes .
its like a toddler saying "i'm a big boy now!", really we still aren't one of the big clubs YET but we could be
we don't offer big wages, in this day and age that's what defines a big club
the likes of suarez, fabiano, cole, forlan etc will go to the highest bidder i'm afraid
once we get in increased revenue from the new stadium and regular CL football (touch wood) we will be seen as a big hitter once again

We are a Big Club but are still living on the 80s memories when it comes to Europe.
We are finally looking like a really strong contender for CL football every season and providing we qualify this year we have a good chance of getting to the 1st knockout stages of the competition which would be great for our 1st attempt.
The likes of Liverpool and Man Utd are surviving on the reputation that will soon dissapear once Gerrard, Torres, Giggs and Scholes and Alex Ferguson either leave or retire.
Rooney is the only reason Man Utd have kept up with the pace last season and Gerrard likewise for Liverpool, without either Manure would have never been close to the tuitle and the Dippers would have been bottom 10 easy.
We are a new breed of team just like the Goons (as much as i hate to admit it). We have quality in every position and are building a team that will fight for each other in every single game whilst playing good attractive, exciting football.
I wouldnt be surprised that in 5 years the top 4 will be Spurs, Chavs, Goons and Citeh. Manure are past it and the Dippers have nothing left in the tank.

We are labelled a small club not only due to our wage cap but because our Stadium is relatively small plus we dont exactly have the greatest training ground the world has ever seen.
Ofcourse we are looking to build a bigger stadium and improve the TC but players also want so much £$£ these days! We are helped though that our location is London. The more success we have the more players will take notice of us. The Wage structure - I understand why DL has implemented it but I would still keep it in place, but I would raise it a little higher (which DL probably has done)

Well I think this could be argues quite a bit; while people in England look at Tottenham as a "big club" you also have to realise that people like Newcastle and Leeds also still believe their club to be "big" while in reality, the global expansion of the EPL in the last, lets say 6 years, has been dominated by 4 main teams, all of which we all know and do not need to name.
What is this with "special players?" You want to sign a 100,00 k a week striker who could also eff it all up and turn out to only score 5 goals in this season? I think your also forgetting that out of all the EPL teams, Tottenham had the most goals scored by different players, something which I think shows the team work that has been brought since 'Arry has come to Spurs.
Lastly, Im happy with the players we have. how can you not look at players like Bale, Modric and Lennon and not say that they were not coup signings back in the day? Sure we fooked up with some players like Gio and the Prince (and after this WC I'm sure I am not the only person kicking themselves over the 2) but they are all quality players... well maybe not Gilberto...
It's been my life, Tottenham Hotspur;
and I love the Club
bit confused by your reply ive not said we havent got quality players brought into the club not said anything about how many goals we have scored and the amount of players who have scored them that wasnt wat this post was about
If Chelsea or Manu had our season last year it would have been considered a near disaster. They are big clubs.
New stadium, training grounds, and consistent play will puts us right with them though. We are one of the few well run clubs in the EPL and our smart business will likely result in continued success.

I heard David Ginola the other day say:
"The likes of Klinsmann, Gascoigne, Mabbutt, Waddle, Lineker . . its just fantastic. I know all of them & I know they are great players and if I'm amongst them its probably because I'm not too bad"
That kind of says it all really, & he doesn't even mention half of our really great players.

Vertonghen is his name!

I'd love to say Chelsea isn't a big club but they have been successful for awhile now and I don't see the Russian pulling up shop anytime soon.
We should aim to win the Premier League Title. Its not impossible. For years we have been content with "European Qualification" and then ending up mid-table and a day out in the FA Cup. Chelski and now Man C are going for the title. Fulham, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Everton and even Birmingham are gonna push for places. We are a big club in the tradditonal sense. In this PL league it is all about financial strength. For a 'Name' we are gonna have to fork out. or make a deal somewhere. It's hit and miss and no gaurentee. . Our mentality has to be to win the the Title. Everything else falls into place from there.
