We've got a few months and the summer window to change that lol.

On the form Pav's on I dont want him to leave either, but I do agree with you and think theres a quite high chance he will. I think if we got an offer equal to or more then we paid for him, I think we'd accept that, and these goals he's scoring are bumping up his value.

If we do lose Pavlyuchenko, getting a striker in will be equally as important as a CM. Our form has looked so much better recently simply because someone other then Defoe is giving us a goal threat.
If Pav did go, the summers going to be swarming on here with striker threads lol.

Maybe we'll even see our old buddy Huntelaar pop up in the rumour mill.

Surely we can agree that at least one of our strikers is leaving. I personally would be pleasantly surprised if Pav was here next year. Cavani would be a wonderful replacement, especially if it was Pav that left.

On another note, let me reiterate my opinion that Kjaer would be a fantastic fit for us. Physical, classy defender with a great future. He will also be featuring at the World Cup, and should increase his value.

I should also mention that palermo may well make the Champions League, (they are in exactly the same spot as us now) and would probably have considerable interest in hanging on to these guys.

i think its worth noting that even if we dont have to part ways with pav in the summer, chances are we will still be in the market for a striker, as keano will probably be off and I can't see eidur being more than a short term replacement. having said that, keane's form leading up to the summer could be enough to convince arry to hang on to him, who knows?

There is an interesting article in the Mail today.

In it, they say that Harry is preparing to adopt a different style next season for Spurs, 1 that will enable us to play with a 5 man midfield plus a lone striker.

We attempted to play in such a formation once or twice this season but failed miserably and it would appear that Harry believes he needs the right personnel in order to play this way.

He wants us to play a more solid, counter-attacking style, especially Away from Home and the purchase of Sandro will help enable this sort of formation. The article then says that, other than just another holding midfielder, what Harry will really need is to splash out a sizeable chunk on a CF capable of leading the lie on their own . . .

hmm, interesting. Could Harry see Cavani as that man? It would certainly fit with this 451 theory the Mail are presenting.

Forward thinking Harry set to change Spurs

On a separate note, the article seems to imply that Spurs fans will be at odds with such a formation as it goes against our tradition to play in this 451. However, may I remind everyone that we played very successfully in a 451, & in a very 'Tottenham' way, as early as 1986, in the Hoddle, Mabbutt, Waddle, Ardiles, Paul Allen midfield, with Clive as a lone striker netting 49 goals in 1 season!!

That is interesting. The idea that the 4-5-1 is necessarily a stodgy defensive formation is outdated. With the right personnel, it can be quite attack-minded and morphs very easily into something that looks more like a 4-3-3.

I actually think our inability to make possession pay off has been as big a problem as our naivete sometimes. While we've certainly blown our share of leads, (Everton, etc), we can all think of several games we should've put away early but allowed the other side to shut us down with pure numbers behind the ball.

No doubt though, that if you're going to challenge for the things we hope to challenge for, you've got to have more tactical options to put out there. I think Harry is a little more sophisticated than even we give him credit for.

quite excited to see how we adapt next season, if we continue strengthening our squad like this, there's only one way that we'll be heading that's for sure.

So, by that article's suggestion, Away at Old Trafford next season could look something similar to this:

      ------------------- Gomes ----------------
      Corluka --- Dawson --- Bassong --- Bale
      -------- Sandro ---------- Palacios -------
      Lennon ------------ Modric ------ Kranjcar
      -------------- Cavani ----------------------

Harry might even see Huddlestone playing in where Modric is because Hudd has done well when he's gone forward this season & he does add a little more strength to that midfield, with either Luka or Niko on the left.

If we played with a lone striker, I personally dont think Defoe could be that man. He hasnt got the all-round game to play as a lone striker.

This is interesting as it would mean a total over haul of our strikers.
Like I said, if this did happen I highly doubt that Defoe would be the man to lead our attacking line.
Crouch would also be ineffictive because he seems to always drop deep with his flick ons and such. I cant see him being an effective lone striker as if we did play this way, we'd probably end up looking waaaay too much like Bolton lol.
We'd need a complete forward. Cavani could quite possibly do this job, but I dont really know enough about him to comment personally.

Unless of course Harry's thinking of switching to this 4-5-1 for away and tough games, and still using our 4-4-2 for home games. Maybe he wasnts the option of changing formations.

Its just discussion mate, I dont think anyones getting carried away.
There was a news report that Harry is thinking of changing his system, and Cavani would probably fit a 4-5-1.

4-5-1 is now adopted as a more attacking formation.

Look at Barca, Manc Utd, Arseholes etc. It would need to have a back up plan of a 4-4-2 but I would not be unhapy to see us persue it in the ight way with 3 flair attacking players.

I know bugger all about this lad but he needs to be one hell of a player to do it all on his own.

I would rather Crouch and or Pav left as opposed to JD. His pace is a constant threat and the boy can finish. Pavs good form is pleasing but his workrate would be attrocious in a one man front line. Crouchy cant hold the ball as his touch is like Peter fookin Sutcliffs and it bounces off him everywhere.

Another exciting summer and you also have to ask why we would change from the successfull formation we have achieved our great league position with this season.

Change for the sake of it could be a step backwards if it goes wrong and the wrong personell are emloyed.
