You say that mate, but if you are Harry (& again, this is only an hypothesis), & you know Pav is leaving in the summer then a new striker will be essential also.

Regardless, I don't think this would mean for 1 second that we are not doing our best to bring in a CM, from reports it seems we might already have an agreement for Sandro anyway, & I don't believe that us tracking Cavani means we are not applying ourselves properly in that pursuit of a midfielder at all.

Btw, did anyone see Cavani's goal against Udinese the other day? I wouldn't mind him finishing like that at White Hart Lane!!

Here you go, Berby, UNBELIEVABLE finish! Running into the box, looking over the wrong shoulder, ball is chipped in over his other shoulder, on an angle, spins & still bicycle kicks it perfectly into the far corner!! That is technique of the highest order!

      I just wonder.

Harry said "we'll know before the end of the season". Uruguay are at the World Cup & Cavani will surely be expected to star. If he has a good World Cup his price will surely rocket up, so maybe we are looking to tie up the deal early

Uruguay have a pretty frightening strike-force in Forlan, Luis Suarez & Cavani!! I don't reckon Palermo will get the £20m they want for Cavani as he is not even 1st choice for his country yet (Forlan & Suarez are ahead of him) but if he were to do something special at the WC, the might suddenly be able to get near £20m

Bass you seem to be pursuing your own personal campaign to get rid of Pav or am I misreading your post here.
Please feel obliged to rectify any mistakes I make in this reply because I will gladly apologise to you.
Now let me get this straight Pavlyuchenko will definitely leave come the summer for reasons you allege above. Well if that is the case he would surely have gone in January if he was so desperate and unhappy irrespective of your summizing .

I must say your sources of information has always intrigued me because you make such bold statements about various players personal lifestyles and who Arry wants to sign and sell etc. Im beginning to think your Arry in disguise but anyway......

Pav has found himself back in favour with Arry at the moment mainly through desperation due to our lack of form and injuries and I have no hesitation in stating that Pav is the main reason for our return to winning ways. His goals have put us back up to fourth in the PL and kept us in the FA Cup , he has helped transform the teams confidence since his arrival in the side because they now believe they can score and that is huge for morale .
Pav does not look like a player who wants to leave , just look at his workrate not only in games but in training also, and the way he"s celebrated his NINE goals in the last few games, he looks like someone who is very happy to me, so Bass I think you need to reconsider your opinion on Pav , I for one believe he"s a star thats been waiting to shine and quite a few more think the same judging by the response from teamates and the fans
      I will quit now but I shall leave you with this question;
If Pav continues to score and we get a CL place and/or win the FA Cup , do you think you or Arry would still sell him ?
Bloode Ell Ive nearly posted as big as yours !

Mate if you read Bass's post again i think you will find he was only saying it was a "hypothesis" about Pav leaving not fact in any way. Its no secret that he has been linked away from Tottenham for months so i see no reason of why you would take any offence to a discussion about another striker possibly coming in.

Im sure if Pav continues to work hard and knock the goals in then Harry will want him to stay but even if he does Keane could always leave so this Cavani lad might even replace him.

No offence taken and I agree about Keane and that we need a new striker, but I just felt that instead of rejoicing the fact that Pav is proving his class in a Spurs shirt , it was disappointing to see his efforts are not appreciated by everyone.

ctw, I absolutely don't want Pav to leave.

I knew people would misinterpret my posts about Pav but I have always said how much of a Pav fan I am. I have criticised his application a bit before, but only after over a year of bigging him up & just because I can see that he hasn't always given 100% recently, it doesn't mean I don't rate nor want him at Spurs.

What I'm saying in this thread is purely an observation based on what Pav himself has said. As much as we would all like him to be here next season, I think we all hae to accept that it is a strong possibility that he misses Russia & wants to go home. It might be the case that this new-found form has made hi re-think things but I just don't see it. Its not like he's suddenly taking English lessons, not that I care whether he speaks English or not (especially if he is scoring goals), but it must say something about how he is feeling inside.

I'm loving what Pav is doing right now. I said or a long, long time that he was capable of playing this way & I had started top doubt whether it was the case but he has come back and done superbly. However, if we all sit here & believe that his current form has endeared him to life in England & persuaded him not not to leave for Russia, I just think we're all going to be left very disappointed

Bass I dont know Pav at all except on a football pitch, but I do know he"s a happy bunny atm simply because he is doing what comes natural to him, and thats playing and scoring. I am sure he feels different right now compared to a few weeks ago when he was feeling verydown (understandibly imo) due to being ignored by his manager.
Im sure you know as well as anybody that confidence is everything in a sportsman especially a footballer from a foreign land with different cultures ,food and lifestyles.
Pav has without doubt struggled with life here in the UK, and if I was his manager I would have done a lot more to help him settle because he is a quality striker who just needs to be understood, so that you get the best out of him. I mean if he"s not happy but can score goals , then what will he be like if he does settle here?
I think he could be the most influential player for us between now and the end of the season, and this period alone will determine the future of Pav, nothing else.

I agree, ctw, & in terms of 'football' he is happy to be playing & scoring. However, I don't think in terms of his family-life anything has changed.

Like I said in my original post on the matter, Pav has never settled in England & nor has his wife. He says he is happy here now but only because he has found some Russian friends to surround himself with. That's great if it means he will stay here but I just feel that the fact he only mixes with his fellow countrymen means he misses home. If Lokomotiv come back in with an improved offer in the summer, which they will, do you honestly believe that Pav will say he wants to stay in England because of the form he enjoyed at the end of the season? I wish & hope it will be so but I severely doubt it.

What's clear to me is that Spurs have learnt from our past mistakes. We would've taken the offer from Lokomotiv (reports were that Levy had accepted it) but we needed to have a replacement lined up. We did not really have that when we lost Berba & Keane & even tho we brought in Pav, it was all a bit rushed & we suffered from it big time.

I just cannot help feeling that Lokomotiv will make a renewed bid in the summer, we'll have someone of similar cost (perhaps Cavani) already lined up, Pav will still want to go home & we won't force him to stay this time around. We cannot keep him here against his will.

Unless he comes out and says how he has changed his mind, he loves it in England now & wants to stay, then I will reassess things but he has actually said the opposite & that he will play till the end of the season & stay at Spurs but will address the situation once more in the summer. That doesn't sound like someone wanting to stay to me.

I totally agree that he could yet be the greatest influence over our run-in but whatever he achieves here now I'm fairly certain his heart is set on a return home. Like I said, that is just a theory based on his life outside of football but it is a pretty strong theory. He never really wanted to come to England in the 1st place & he cited his family as being the being the main issue as they did not want to leave Russia. He only came in the end because his wife changed her mind & agreed to come. Pav clearly bases his decisions with his family in mind & that is partly why I like him so much but it is also why I think he'll be on his way. I hope I'm wrong but, if he does still want to leave us in the summer, after his superb form I will miss him greatly but wish him all the best . . .

. . . especially if we can bring in a player like Cavani as a replacement!

Well, to further sum things up, if we are to lose Pav (or any of our strikers for that matter) it would require a player of Cavani's calibre to make up for it
