Well where do I start with todays performance? I was not surprised to see Robbie Keane lead the team out today, all week Arry has been bigging up RK and I reckon the thinking was if there is any game that he can do well in and win back the fans favour then today's game is the one, WRONG!
I really like Arry and most of what he does for THFC but sometimes he must just admit he has got it wrong and today he got it wrong bigtime, not only with pairing RK and JD(and let's be fair we all know that is not going to work)but also his tactics for the game. Why start with two little guys as your main strikers and then keep lofting high balls in from both flanks where is the sense in that?
Today and not for the first time this season we where faced with a team that came with a game plan and stuck to it and fair play to Hull for that, but it was Arry's job to set the tactics to find a way through, sadly he failed. Hull played with two rows of four and as I said not the first time we have witnessed this game plan this season, ok it's always going to be hard to play against but it's no good keep coming out after these type of games and telling us that Hull are fighting for their lives and they put in a 'triffic performance', of course they did Arry what did you expect from a team fighting to stay in the Prem? That is where you come in Arry, it's your job to find a way around this problem it's what you are paid vast sums of money for, the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea come across this problem on a regular basis and most of the time they deal with it, ok I'll grant you these games are always going to be a battle but they have to be won if we want to finish in the top 4.
Full credit to their keeper Boaz Myhill he put in an amazing performance and without doubt the MOM, but I feel if we had a world class striker in our team we would have run up a credible goal tally today. Quite often we have had visiting keepers putting in fantastic performances against us, do you not think that is a little bit strange? I feel the reason is more likely we make them look better because we put them under so much more pressure than they are used to and they respond with an outstanding performance because they are being kept alert all the time.
As good as JD is he is not a prolific goalscorer, and by that I mean 1 or 2 goals a game, week in and week out. We need to find that player and make him number one striker, I have called many times for this to happen and long before today's game so it's not a knee jerk reaction from me because we failed to win against Hull.
Today the Croats had a bad day at the office with all three failing to stamp their authority on the game, I suppose it had to happen sometime but for all three to lose form in one match was always going to be difficult to overcome.
To finish on a more optimistic note at least we stretched our unbeaten run and have now gone 6 games without conceding, not really surprising though for today Gomes did not have one save to make. Man City going down at Everton was no real surprise as we all know they don't travel well, and after Evertons fine display and bad luck not to take all 3 points against Ar5ena1 last week I felt it was always going to be a tough place to get a result. So once again we have been reprieved by other results going our way but we should not be relying on others to keep us in the mix.
