YOu can't have both. Passing game and defending with possesion and long bals to Crouch. Wen it comes to running he is 1 man less on the field. Maby a change of formation now that Modric is out.

Yeah who cares if we get the three points, Crouch had one cleared of the libe and he hit the bar before scorring so i think having a plan B is fine, we all know we can play abit too.

short answer yes; long answer no.
Exactly mate, whatever it takes to get 3pts.It's the goons inability or reluctance to mix things up and go long on occasion, thats resulted in em going trophyless for years. What did their beautiful football and insistance on over elaborate passing gain em yesterday at old trafford?I fail to see how a winger delivering quality crosses for our strikers, equates to negative tactics, both pav and crouch must be delighted with the service they will be getting.I'm delighted we got a squad capable of going plan b or c if required, and a manager brave and shrewd enough to use it when needed.
Granted I didn't see the whole game but from what I did see we was just putting crosses into the centre of the box. Thats not what I would call long ball. Crouch, for a big fella, has got a lovely touch (gotta love Mock the Week) and can play quite fancy stuff himself. I can't see us playing like Blackburn whenever Crouch comes on, but we would be foolish not to put crosses into the box when we have someone of his height.
"You score goals as a kid. Then you grow up stupid and become a goalkeeper."
When a team packs the defense in its defensive third as Birmingham did in the first half yesterday it is crucial to be able to score on a header off the cross, because that negates the strength of that defensive strategy--if you can't go through it, go over it. Get that first goal and the opposition then has to come out of its uber defensive mindset unless it is content to lose 1-nil. Crouch looks remarkably awkward in the flow of the game, but he brings an offensive dimension to the team which otherwise is not nearely so pronounced. Take away crouch yesterday and Spurs probably get at most 1 point instead of three.
Crouch came on when he did only because of the injury to Modric and we, in my opinion, continued to play the same way, his goal and chances came from crosses, not long balls. However we seemed to lose a little direction when they drew level almost immediately and, whether it was down to a lack of ideas or an order rom the bench, it was a little disconcerting to see us start lumping it aimlessly forward. At this point, I don't know what anyone else thinks, the tactic wasn't working and I thought we may well lose the game. Thankfully the slip from Carr and some good football led to the winner which only serves to convince me that the long ball game is neither reuired or wanted.
to be totally honest the only real 'long ball' was hudd's pinpoint free-kick which led to a goal anyway; and that wasn't too bad to watch surely!? not sure; but i found crouchie's attacking threat pretty explosive and exciting; but maybe im just used to seeing it played on the deck far too much. BORING! lol.
