Just because he has 50 capps does that make him a really good player? I think not. I think it shows how poor Englands strikers have been over recent years. Would Heskey get into the German, Brazilian, French or most top National teams? Let alone play 50 capps for them? I dont think he would.

Defoe and Rooney is as good as it gets for England at present and there is not enough quality back up.

berby it might not make him a "really good player" in your opinion - but you said he wasnt good enough for england, well clearly he is if hes accumulated 50 caps ?

admittedly hes a play that comes in and out of fashion but he does alot of hard work, and when heskey plays england play better.

I think the very least any player should do is work hard when representing there country, its the bare minimum. I dont want to go to far off topic but i really dont rate him. I think he is a average premiership player. I dont think that should be good enough for 50 England caps but as you say he has them so to me it shows just how poor Englands strikers have been in recent times.

Its just a shame Owen is crocked now, he really was a decent striker and I agree with Berby Heskey is not going to win us the World cup.
I just hope Rooney stays fit and Defoe starts to produce for England, I still think Crouchy can do a job up there too.

Fabio Capello Faces Striker Crisis As Darren Bent Limps Out Of England Training

England's striking options have considerably worsened, as Italian tactician Capello will be without Darren Bent - the man he only called-up to replace three already crocked forwards...

      31 Mar 2009 11:28:37

England's 4-0 thumping of friendly opposition Slovakia at the weekend was blighted by the sight of an attacking trident all being brought off the pitch as precautionary measures after sustaining various injuries.
Emile Heskey, Carlton Cole and Peter Crouch are vying for the same position, but were all substituted due to injuries, and so Darren Bent was called-up after the game with a view to at least having the Tottenham Hotspur striker on the bench for Wednesday evening's World Cup qualifier against fellow undefeated Group Six side, Ukraine.
However, England manager Fabio Capello's preparations for the game have been further disrupted as Bent, too, is unlikely to feature against the Zhovto-Blakytni after the striker - who has four international caps with only one outright start - limped out of training on Tuesday morning, as reported by Setanta Sports.

Cole, Heskey and Bent are now therefore definite absentees for the qualifier, though Crouch could be available after the leggy targetman passed through various training sessions unscathed.

Capello may also be tempted to call-up another forward, as Wayne Rooney and Crouch remain his only two recognised strikers.

England, though, will be further bolstered along the back-line, as Rio Ferdinand - who had to be withdrawn for Saturday's Slovak showdown due to a back strain - appears to have made a return to full fitness.

      Crazy situation!

Owen will have to be recalled now. Johnson is also another bet.

This is exactly why managers dont want their players on international duty coming towards the end of a football season .

Now if we have one more injured striker this could put us in crisis let alone England . I know Defoe will be coming back earlier than expected but that is supposed to be good for us not get us out of a problem that we shouldn't even have .

Will we get compensation like Owens club did , cos if we dont then we have every right to call Lennon back .

Am i in some sort of mad nightmare = first they call up Ledley king and now this - total madness

Strange that Cabbage Man didn't call up Kevin Davies or Michael Owen imo. Anyway Cabbage Man has confirmed that Peter Crouch WILL start the match against Ukraine tomorrow.
