Well put and I completely agree that we have created this situation ourselves. But actions speak louder than words and I think it will be better for the club long term if we actually stick to our word and dont pay silly money (although it could be argued that we have already done this is signing Defoe). I remember when ferguson came from aberdeen to manager manure he was on verge of the sack, one game and a team of youth players changed his fortunes, Beckham, Nevilles, scholes,giggs, to name few. looking at our youth squad could history repeat itself with our fortunes changing with one game and a good bunch of youth players coming to the fore in our first team.
I think we have a problem , that is , we need to be on the verge of champions league to stop the likes of manure from poaching our talent , Sheringham ,Carrick ,Berbatov , they dangle that carrot and offer wages that we cant . Unyil we can start dangling the same carrots we will always lose our jewelrey . But at least when we lose our jewelrey they pay double the players worth . I know its no consolation but look at ceteh's behaviour since midas walked in the door .

Stop bidding for EPL players. Not much to unearth there. Anybody decent is already inflated. Although palacios is very young and 14 mil might be just what I'd consider spending as he might be a key signing.
Palacios for 13-14 mill would be a decent bit of business, all things considered. This guys a really good player, mobile, athletic, strong and most importantly a real willing worker in the engine room. I'd be sad to see Zakora warming the bench though, after all he's one of the only players who has always worked his nuts off for us fans and the team.

Good Morning, I agree that we should be looking elsewhere,
but when we do fans complain that we are not bringing in proven
players. I hope as Harry gets more settled we will see players
brought through.
Palacios is a good player, but the fact that so many of us are OK with
£14m, kinda proves that we are happy to pay over the odds.
I actually wonder if things might be better if we did not have money
to spend, and had to "deal" more. Other teams way above us in the
league table, can't afford a Bentley or a Modric, for £15m each, does
not seem to be hurting them...
I think this is a case of desperate times calling for desperate measures and wee need that bit of steel in the middle of the park, as much as zokora battles he gives the ball back to much, although we are paying over the odds know for proven prem players, i think Harry will really start working his magic in the summer
I think its just a case either or desperation buying inflating prices, or maybe inflation in the player market. look at the summer buys: berbatov: 30 million, keano 20 million, robinho 32 million, bentley 15 million, pav 14 million. i dont think it matters that we got palacios for a couple of million more than whats hes worth since in a few years he will be worth more like 25.
