I think he is excellent on his line and has made some superb saves. He obviously has to understand his defence and when to come out, but isn't this basic goalkeeping? Surely a man who has commanded an 8 million transfer figure didn't show this trait before, so why now? I'm sure he will come right though. An interesting keeper to watch ...........lots of character and his facial expressions are classic, always looks as though he's in agony!

There is a massive difference between english prem and the Dutch Semipro-Conference-League that he came from.

The speed that the prem players send the ball into the box is amazing and this is challenging the decision making process of Gomezzzz.

Anyone here hear the interview with bob Wilson, talking about how (in his day) keepers could eaily come out the penalty spot and take the ball into there hands. But now the new balls can come over so quick that keepers cant dominate out side the 6 yard box.

he said keepers can only get one or two steps before the ball is already there and they have to punch now. he also said they have to be VERY DECISIVE. which gomez is not.

I'm pretty sure Cerny went to QPR.

I agree that Gomez is a good shot stopper, but with his confidence dented at the moment his decisions on crosses are awful. Everytime the opposition has a corner my heart is in my mouth! It is amazing what confidence can do, you only have to look at the recent team performances to see this. Hopefully he will get a couple of clean sheets and play well, then we might get to see the player we paid 8 mil for, if not, come January, he will have to go!

Cerny did indeed end up at QPR, a deal agreed before last season even finished.

We never owned his contract as he was only on a long term loan. Not a bad thing, as he was crap, and has had a ropey start to life at QPR.

As for the solution? well my solution is keep Gomes, allow him and his back four to establish a relationship over time and we will be fine.

There is nothing worse for a keeper than to play with an unfamiliar back for week in week out, and similarly nothing worse than a back four with no understanding or familiarity with there keeper.

To go out and sign another keeper is hazardous, as there aren't a great deal of options and your keeper is only as good as his last mistake i'm afraid. There is sadly no such thing as a keeper who will get every decision right. Not even at the highest level. You just have to accept the mistakes and ask yourself if the pro's outway the con's.

I for one certainly wouldn't want Robbo back. He is the complete opposite of Gomes. His Problem was that he never commanded his box and never came off his line. Now we have Gomes, who gets itchy feet and always seems to throw himself at everything.

To constantly replace your keeper will only breed further inconsistency. I think Gomes has looked ropey, but we are yet to see him at his best.
