we may well have spent an obscene amount of money , this money did not come from a corrupt russian billionaire , middle east oil tycoon it came from the clubs reqisitions and funds .

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and foremost about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

Play nice or this decent thread gets closed!!!!!!
No more warnings!!!!!!
A salary cap is a good idea in theory but unlike American sports where it is used already football is played all around the world at a more even level. I mention this last bit because I know American football/Basketball etc are played in a lot of countries but leagues outside America are at a much lower level and would not pay at all or pay much less.
And in response to Torres, as has been stated many, many times, we sold players to get the money we spent this summer. I'm sick of reading about how much we spent!
"It's no use just winning, we've got to win well."
You may have sold more than you spent, but the honest truth is, it was never going to benefit you. That is the difference between a business and a good business. As for your last comment . . . Well, seeing as we have ten time more points than you and sit nineteen places above you, 'not understanding business terribly well' seems to be something everyone should do?
Are you able to read and understand what you read Torres? I wrote you don't understand business in Liverpool, not football!
You criticised us for doing badly after spending so much, when the fact is that we spent less than we took in. That is what a good BUSINESS does!!!
Why are there no Scousers on Star Trek?
Cos they don't want to work in the future either.![]()
Sorry, mate, but I just don't agree that we are a good business.
I've lost count of the number of times I've said this, but I'll say it again - the business of a football club is football. Maximum returns off the pitch come when performance on the pitch is maximised.
We are going to report (have already reported?) what? A £46m profit? My question - if I were an investor with no association of a footballing nature - is whether Levy and co have maximised my investment. The resounding answer would be 'no', and there is little sign that will change any time soon.
Without the holy grail of the Champions League my investment would never be maximised, and frankly we are further away from that than we have been in any of the past three years. Therefore I can only conclude that executive management is a failure.
Therefore, no, we are not a good business.
I don't even know why this thread has gone on as long as it has. Just the title threw me off? We're in a better position than Chelsea? Haha, Chelsea isn't 20th in the league with 2 draws to show for it.
