Yes we have a strong midfield and it looks like Bent will be the lone striker, but we still need cover for him so we need to sign another striker at least.

Berbatov, on the assumption he stays. He'd pretty much taken over that role anyway.

Whe I heard Alonso was off to Juve for 15 mill I thought we should have had a punt at him, as his is a decent deep creative midfielder. He showed what he is capable of if given a more forward roll in the Euros, arguably their best midfielder.

Mascherano too I wouldnt sniff at, but there are better.

Like I said without the glue that is G they are average.
Like United are average without Ronaldo, Arsenal with Cesc. Every team has their men that when missing make the side look average at best.

it depends on whether GDS is playing as an attacker or midfielder but you're right, he should get goals from either position. In regards to free-kicks, we have a new weapon in Bentley now also. He takes a mean free-kick and will surely score a few. I reckon JJ, Bentley & Bale will probably be the ones stood round the ball but I wouldn't put it past Modric either.

BTW i don't know why you don't think Modric will score from distance, he didn't have much of a problem at Dinamo. Here's every goal he scored for his old club (apologies for the poor quality and the eastern european hip-hop!). The goal in their 4:3 game against Sibenik is easily 25-30 yards out & the volley against Kamen Ingrad is an absolute beauty!

Goals wont be our problem, and the midfeild will score plenty. Its how many we concede that will be our downfall.

that seems kinda negative we don't know if our defense will ship a ton of goals or not

If the first choice defense cann stay fully fit for 3/4 of the season you're fine, but if not then I think you may have worries there. Not worries like you had over the last few years, not that bad, but yeah, that is more of a worry than your attacking threat I think.

In regards to the defense you have to think that they have much more experience playing back there tha they did last year and the major underperformers defensively are now gone.

Corluka would have been ideal, but he was just back up or at best part of a rotation system.

The rotation is what I see hapening untill we find 2 propper strong (1 at best assuming that Woody is fixed for good) centre backs.

If start well and the defense holds strong we will hold off buying a quick fix untill Jan, but if we are pony like last year then I think we will blow a shed load of dough at chrimbo and right off Ledders.

Saying that we have cover and options in Woody, King, Dawson, The Hud, Zakora.

Between those lot we should be able to plug the gap untill we an prise Pepe from Real Madrid

Actually that Dunne from Man City was ok. Now that there is fresh uncertainty, perhaps the opening to prise him away might re-surface, may be during Jan window.
