WAY too much of a gamble to risk someone that as stated was a bundle of nerves against the Celts. If this was a nothing game then sure I'd be all for it but it's a massive ask to expect someone that hasn't impressed for us in meaningless games to step up in an FA Cup Semi in front of 80k+ at the home of English football and perform.

Don't get me wrong it bugs me that many of our kids never get a decent chance to shine but with the issues we've had at CB since we signed him you'd think at 21 if he was good enough he'd of managed at least a few games by now. Harsh maybe but there's no room for sentiment if we want to push on to bigger and better things

Because that's the way it's going at the moment. The foreseen procedure will go as follows (imagine Dos Santos while reading):

      1) Dervite will be left on the bench constantly until the end of the season.
      2) He'll be sent out on loan AGAIN, only to be hailed as a cult hero there.
      3) He'll come back and be left on the bench again, causing a rift and bad atmos in the dressing room for not getting enough game time.
      4) He'll get signed to another club permanently and blossom, triggering the 'what might have been' sentiment.
I doubt he will get a go this season with every game being so important unless it gets even worse at the back. Like you said he's 21 with no appearences for the first team, in the modern game thats very poor. Him doing well for southend means nothing when stepping up two tiers of football, all it means is that he's league 1 quality not prem. Now your telling me you would want to give him a chance at wembley ? In all honesty i can see him moving clubs after pre season next year as every year he gains with no first team appearence he looses value. I hope he does live up to what he was touted to be as a very good up and coming player in our youth ranks, but do i see it happening now ? Not really.
Would you rather take a risk with dawson or ledley on sunday if given the chance or play dervite ? and who has gone on to blossom recently triggering the "what could of been sentiment ?" from us ?

Well now that Ledley King is most likely going to appear on Sunday it doesn't matter for now. I was talking hypothetically. Until Sandro comes along or another actual centreback whose groin muscle isn't made of chewing gum, we'll be having selection problems like this.

Jamie O'Hara and Adel Taarabt are the only examples I can think of. And before you shout "O'HARA'S ON LOAN", I predict that he'll move on next season once we've recalled him anyway.

      COULD HE JACK!
On the day before Jorge Valdano was going to give 17 year old Raúl his Real Madrid debut,he went to see Raúl and said "I'm thinking of playing you tomorrow, but I'm worried you might be nervous." Raúl replied "Well, If you want to win, play me. If you don't want to win, put someone else in the team." Raúl Gonzalez Blanco <3

I've only seen him play once...and honestly he was pretty bad. But you got to give players chances, as confidence is such an important aspect of the game.

Having said that i'm not sure a semi at wembley would be the best platform for him to get his first proffesional start.....

Actually, there's 'durian fruit' which, like the thought of Dervite playing at Wembley smells really offputting on the outside, but very very nice if you open it up and see the flesh within.
