Thread: Steven Pienaar

Wel for a while now, ive wondered if there was anyway we could play bale as a LB(on paper). Meaning we start with a 442 but really we would have more of a back 3 (dawson,gallas,corluka) and bale would be given more space to gallop up and down and so on. Bale would push up as a Lm when attacking, with pienaar then tucking in next to Modric as more of a 3 cm formation if that makes sense. One would sit deep (wilson) one would hold (Pienaar) and one would play more attacking(Modric)?? I think it could make us sooo much more dangerous, the only thing would be that Corluka must play instead of hutton as hes more defensively solid and more trusworthy imo.

Like so, but with pienaar tucking in more when we attack and the Cb's would know what was going on to cover for bale. I think its worth a go at least, maybe with BAE being out(blatently harrys given him a break after like 10000 games in a row) and maybe without there threat of carroll, now may be the time to experiment!!!!

Who do you rate should start as ST then? I know the Crouch/VDV combo seems to be the favourite, but in the spirit of experimentation couldn't Defoe work - even if he doesn't hang quite as high as Crouch would?

Been confirmed on the Spurs website he is in the squad for Saturdays game against Newcastle, I hope he is given his debut and comes on in the second half at some point.

Shame about BAE. Guy has had a lot of games and works well with Bale. Also I don't want Bale at LB to become a habit.

It's also time to try out VdV and Defoe.

yer tbh i would start vdv and defoe and i think thats what harry will go for. I think it should be defoe because as frustrating he can be sometimes i can just tell that he wants to prove himself soooo badly! And he will get chances. Im sure we wont be seeing bale at lb much, but if harry does change things slightly and it works, who knows?
I personally think it could prove to be genius tbh, afterall who will be marking bale when he's a lb? Of coarse they will be cautious but its by no means the same. Bale will basically be a fullback, with pienaar tucking in alongside Modric, we cant do it the other side because lennon couldnt play that role. IMO

Nah, i only suggested for this match as Bae is out. Plus as i said bale would more or less play the same role as he does but basically with a back 3! It probs wont happen but it could work wonders for us going forward!. I often feel its harder to keep posession going forward with 2 VERY wide men, with such little options in the middle as they get swamped. We dont really do possesion football at the moment, we go from the back to out wide, bomb it down the wings and get a nice cross in. end of attack (hopefully soon will change with top striker). With this OPTION, we dont get stretched and with pienaar playing more as a cm with modric and Palacios, we will be very strong in the middle with plenty of white shirts PLUS our 2 very wide men. Deadly.

although on paper it looks like he's defensive seing him as lb lets face it, on pitch its a different story.

I really cant imagine Gallas humping up and down the flanks. need someone to support Bale and defend
