Well not quite. He turned down Chelski despite Chelski having their offer accepted and no-one has come out of the woodwork yet to confirm.
Assuming that Penile is the money grabbing fooker I believe he is, it would make more sense to sign a pre-contract, stay at Everton til the end of the season and then get a nice signing-on fee with whomever.

Well if Chelski have offered £3m and we've offered £2m we're self evidently in the frame if Pienaar has told Chelski to fook off. I'm still not sure he'll come to us because of basic economics.
quote from archibald on SO that makes a lot of sense regarding the drama that has gone on today regarding Pienaar
"dont believe all u read.... do you honestly think Chelsea wouldnt buy him due to wages... how about thats what his agent has leaked to ensure he gets a good deal!"

I think it as been us that made the offer that everton accepted. Its been no secret we have been chasing him last few months to get a pre contract signed. It looked like we we were content to wait while the summer with a pre contract with the player. but now clubs are offering transfer fees in januaury window, looks like people have played our hand.He will bw a good addition to our champions league squad if it is us that sign him
i hand on heart think he will sign for spurs, you cant tell me when harry spoke to moyes about neville and levy spoke to there chairman pienaar wasnt discussed, come lads this is harry we are talking about i honestly think its a done deal and probably has been for a while
Lots of teams in the EPL would take Pienaar so if we get him it'll be a real top signing.....I really hope we get him now!
He'll only help in making this season a great season....
My favourite spurs player!
Well with Bentley gone, and Beckham at most only here for a couple of months (if he even signs), we have no one that can cover or replace Lennon. Cant see Gio ever getting back in the team, and we all no Niko is bollocks on the right side.

@Robbie_B I've been trying to get this point across to people on here who have said the "why are we going after him blah blah bollocks" line.
What you said is that simple.......people need to look at things beyond a first XI basis sometimes, he'll be so much quality to our squad and who knows he might actually push for a place in the team.

It's all about the new Club finances rule, forget the 2m or 3m transfer fee that's irrelevant. Pienaar wants 75k a week, that's shed-load of money but hey that's what top players get. This amounts to a four year contract for about 15.6m. Chelski are trying to reduce their salary spend to meet the new rules, they are happy to pay 3m transfer but only want to sign a 12m contract. We on the other hand have a low overall salary compared to our income, we are thus not happy to pay the transfer fee (why should we Everton want to make money but in six months they will get nothing) but we are able to pay the contract.
You will see a lot more of these 'strange' deals as clubs with too much salary look to offload players, once again thanks to the way Levy and our board manage the Club we are in a very strong position. Perhaps some of the people planning to protest this weekend should remember not to make this a personal attack on Levy, he's been fantastic for our club, protest against the move not against a person .............

Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Spurs to hold Pienaar talks
Steven Pienaar is now understood to have been given permission by Everton to hold talks with Tottenham.
Skysports.com brought you the news that Pienaar had already held talks with Chelsea, but failed to agree terms and was instead set for a move to Europe.
Tottenham have long held an interest in the Everton star, and the Toffees confirmed that two clubs had made offers - but only one bid had been accepted, the one from Chelsea.
However, Spurs now hope they can succeed where Chelsea failed and agree terms after Everton sanctioned their talks.
But skysports.com understands that as it stands, Pienaar has received big offers from the continent and it would taken a substantial offer to keep him from leaving the Premier League.
Pienaar to Chelski according to the Daily Fail. Quite how Everton have managed to sell him, given he supposedly turned down personal terms, will be an eternal mystery to me.

Pienaar not going to Chelski, but Krancjar will be, according to the Daily Star.
Daily Star: Simply The Best 7 Days A Week :: Football :: £6m Niko Kranjcar off to Chelsea
So that clears everything up then.![]()
I'm not too sure if Levy would want to sell Kranjcar to one of our closest rivals.
