well part of that still has to be the influx of fans to the game anyway. I went to a Champs league game of Crew vs. Toluca and there were only about 5k people in the stands with about 1-1.5k of them being Toluca fans. and that was a very good game to be at too. however i do agree with you to an extent on that.

What I don't understand is, why did San Jose Earthquakes played a friendly mid way through a season? That NEVER happens in the Premier League. What I also don't understand is, what right does the MLS have in blocking a Langdon Donovan transfer OUTSIDE of the MLS? That will never happen in Europe BTW...
I remember seeing Dallas Burn"now FC Dallas" vs Chivas de Guadalajara years ago and the stadium was packed but not just with chivas fans but burn fans as well" I don't like Chivas so I was rooting for Dallas" and that day they were giving out free duffel bags and a few other little goodies but the stadium was full, it sucks that something needs to be given in order to give people interest but it works sometimes.

That is another thing there Heroes that they are trying to change is that right now the league owns all the contracts not the individual clubs. so even though say LA Galaxy may want to sell the league has teh final say.

Anyone watching the all star game against a pre season Manure?

i caught a little of it up and B-dubs, however that was only like 10 minutes. i did see a fellow Yid here in Louisville wearing a berbatov kit. made me want to laugh at my ManUre fan for selling them a £30m paper weight. however he is still defending him like the 6 goals he gives them is worth the £30m they paid for him. hahaha.

I am now forced to watch Manure matches to see how Hernandez will do but eh it isn't so bad what's worst is that I have to watch arsenal to see how Vela is doing.

The difference is a Business syndicate or an organization can get together and form a soccer team, build a stadium, aquire a fanbase, invite old pro's from europe and elsewhere to play to attract customers not fans. They then market it along the lines of showbusiness and wonder why people don't take it serious abroad.
If the game of soccer was more organic. by that i mean clubs originating and evolving from local communites a league will grow, which in-turn, becomes a football association, which one day will become a real American footbal/Soccer team that will be a much stronger. The US has everything in place except real football fans.
disagree.
The game doesn't have to look the same over here. If the alternative to the franchise model is "organically grown" clubs bought up by foreign billionaire oil oligarchs, then I'd say MLS is on the right track.
There are many people in this country (I'm one of them) who have played and passionately supported the game since long before many of the people on this forum were born. I'm the last person to engage in nationalistic silliness, but the condescension of people around the world who honestly believe their accent endows them with some wisdom about the game is just more than I can fookin stand sometimes.
MLS's problem has nothing to do with its failure to be taken seriously by self-important fans around the world, it has to do with the fact that it has to compete for American fans with lots of other major sports.
mls is growing but its still bad, its like watching women at the local park with some teams there is no technical skill it is too much direct play. there is a lot of good american players which is good though and canada is getting involved, i think they are getting a new team in british columbia and they have toronto so hopefully it is good for usa and canada socca
it will be. MLS is getting better however that being said it isn't great yet. however neither were any other leagues that just start out so i'm okay with it now. Just keep moving forward and dump this single entity and this deal about teams being a "franchise" as opposed to a club. make the teams responsible for their own merchindise and things along that.
