well nobody can win a midfield battle with spain so everyone has to play pressure/counterattack..and since villa is up front the german back line has to be close to goal..or he would outrun them and score from some xavi/iniesta,s through ball

No penalty there was contact but nothing to make a big deal out of IMO.

This game reminds me of the 1991 Champions League Cup Final , Red Star Belgrade decided to defend with 10 men for 120 minutes and win it on penalties , so they practised penalties for weeks . When the time came they scored all five of theirs , winning the cup .
