Torquay United | News | Latest | Latest | Smith Signs For Gulls

Hi 1st post for me on here seeing as I`m a Torquay United fan.

We (Torquay United) have signed young Spurs player Adam Smith from you till January. He`s an attacking rihgt-back who made two bench appearences for you in the UEFA Cup last season and made a couple of reserve appearences and from his statistics is a good player but I was hoping I could get any of your views on him and about him coming on loan to Torquay United till January?

      Many Thanks
      Joe Barlow

I don't think he made any appearances for us for us in the UEFA Cup mate, altho he probably was on the bench. He did play in pre-season for us tho, & did very well too.

It'll be interesting to know how he does for you guys as his recent loan to Wycombe didn't really go as well as hoped, altho that was not so much down to Adam being poor or anything.

Anyway, I wish him, and therefore Torquay, all the luck.

In the 2008 pre season he really impressed in the Rotterdam event, i remember O'Hara said about him 'Adam's come in and done really well. He's been brilliant in training and has really impressed everyone. He's a good lad and all the boys have really taken to him'

I dont see much of our youth team, but i hear a lot of good things about him, attacking full back i believe and he can certainly have a very big impact for Torquay

I have to say today he was brillaint for us.

He was voted Man of the Match by the sponsors and supporters and rightly so. He loved putting in the tackles and good runs past thier defence.

Today we lsot 2-0 to Rotherham but that that was down to an incompetent ref who dosent know his backside from his mouth.

I can see him doing well for you guys in the future. He went staight into the squad today along with the resinging of Chris Zebroski.

Smithy was signed thanks to the help of former Tottenham player Coin Lee who is now our Chief Executive and is our former Player, Manager and DOF.

I got to say he his doing great at Torquay now. We won 3 nil against Cheltenham last Tuesday night and he was one of the best on the day.

The club have said that they will be trying to sign him permanently in January so I was wondering if you as fans would let him go to Torquay United?

      What do you think?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Adam leave, altho not in January. You could certainly extend his loan tho.

We are fairly well covered in Adam's position - Corluka/Hutton/Naughton all well ahead in the pecking order. Having said that, I think Hutton will almost certainly be on his way soon.

I think that maybe we have a chance of getting Adam Smith permanently, like yousaid probably not in the January transfer window but maybe extend his loan and then sign him in the summer.

I think that we could sign him permanently as we could offer him 1st team football which every footballer wants and we are aiming for promotion this season so maybe league 1 football/league 2 promotion campaign canattract him to us.
