Mark Hughes is preparing to offer us £8m and Martin Petrov in order to land David Bentley in the January window. WHAT? Has Hughes lost the plot?
I always thought that David never played to his capabilities here at Spurs &, at his full potential, he is a great player. However, I don't think he is any better than Petrov. Younger, yes, but not better. In fact, I don't think he's as good.
Add to that the fact that Petrov's arrival would mean we have a proper left-sided player replacing our spare right-sided player & our squad starts to look even more balanced. Oddly, with Hughes already likely to continue playing SWP on the right, surely by signing Bentley he & David will only be encountering the same problems as we have here at Spurs - they'll be overly compensated on the right-side with only Robinho out on the left.
I know Hughes was trying to nail Petrov down to a new contract recently, so I think it a little bit odd that he is suddenly now offering him to us, but it is possible that Petrov has refused to sign the new contract.
Petrov did say how much he wanted to come to Tottenham in the summer & it was Hughes who blocked the move. However, if he has failed to get the Bulgarian to renew his current contract, then it is in Sparky's interest to get rid of him sooner rather than later.
Could be a goer . . .
City target Bentley

So Levy has got let us know

Yes please, I dno about you bass but i've been watching a few of city's games this season and i've been VERY impressed with Petrov everytime he plays.
I'd want more than £8million especially considering it's Manchester city. Petrov is not bad as a second fiddle to Modric on the left but idealy I'd prefer us to get some more cash from Bentley rather than a player exchange and go for the very promising young Adam Johnson of Boro.
The reason I think it's so quite a lot of money PLUS Bentley is because 1. it's Man City and they don't like being told no, and 2. He's english so the price always gets bumped up a little bit no matter if they're good or not.
Maybe with Petrov we can get Modders playing back in the centre of the park.
Yes yes yes.
Petrov obviously has stalled on the new deal and either wants out or wants a fook off bumper pay day out of them.
He will fit us nicely and I still think we will go for the young lad from boro if not now in the summer.
Levy knows the bobby when it comes to young players.
As much as I like Johnson, he seems destined for Sunderland at the mo.
I'm really warming to the thought of Ben Arfa. According to the French, its between us & Pompey. The thought of Lennon flying down the right & Ben Arfa hurtling down the left just leaves me with a slightly insane grin on my face, rubbing my hands together & plotting world domination!
However, Petrov would be an excellent addition too & I have been well impressed with him at City this year - he's playing better than their so-called Galacticos (wannabe Galacticos more like!!)

Man City fans voted Petrov their player of the month for October . . .
Says a lot with all that cash they splashed about. Really wish we got him when City did. The Berby thing could of ended differently . . . . just having a left winger in the team could of changed our last couple of seasons.
Totally agree with your above post, Ben Arfa will give us balance on both flanks and with Lennon create havoc. Petrov is a proven Prem player and will need no time to adjust to the pressures, also like you I have been very impressed with his performance although limited, he also knows where the net is and would be a great addition to our squad...Mr. Levy do the deal please with or without Bentley going the other way.

Come On You SPURS
well Petrov is already upset at possible lack of first team opportunities with Man City which is why he wants out. will that become part of the problem with him here at Spurs if that becomes the case?
He will be on the bench mate so we probley will have that same problem. He will never be capable of knocking Modric out the team because he is simpley not that good compared to him and in Modric's early days with Spurs it never worked with him in the middle.
For me if he will be unhappy on the bench then it's not worth getting him in just to upset him. If that is the case then we should get someone younger in or give Taarabt a good go there.

Snap their arm off!
COME ON YOU SPURS!!!
Sounds like a good deal to me!
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs and blaming it on you ... you probably haven't a clue what's going on!
Seconded i thought we would have to offer City 8mil and Bentley ffs, the guy has had so many chances to shine with us and unfortunetly hasnt achieved anything, his set plays are dross and his wing play is just as bad where as Petrov is by far superior in every department.
Personally I think Bentley is quite talented - dont wanna see him go :-(
