Harry Redknapp ready to launch surprise loan bid for Ibrox goalkeeper.
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a surprise loan move for Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor. Harry Redknapp is set to approach Rangers with a bid to take McGregor to White Hart Lane in January, with a permanent transfer to be agreed if the ‘keeper impresses on loan.
Spurs are looking to recruit a goalkeeper after Carlo Cudicini’s future was thrown in doubt following a serious motorbike crash. The Italian broke both wrists and sustained injuries to his pelvis and there are fears he may not play again.
Current Tottenham number one Heurelho Gomes has faced questions over his form since joining the club in 2008 and Redknapp wants cover to put pressure on the Brazilian shot-stopper. The Spurs boss has identified McGregor as the man to challenge for the jersey and wants him to join the London club when the transfer window opens in January.
Should McGregor move south and displace Gomes it is likely that he would attract transfer interest from a number of clubs though Spurs would likely have first option to buy written into any loan agreement..
The Scottish News of the World has reported that Spurs would be willing to pay a loan fee of £600,000 to sign the player until the end of the season, as well as cover the £400,000 the ‘keeper would earn in that time.
Given the precarious nature of the Ibrox club’s finances it could be that Rangers would be happy to let McGregor go, knowing that they would receive a substantial transfer fee if the player impressed in the English Premier League.
While Walter Smith would not be keen to see any of his first-team players leave he would be able to call upon Neil Alexander as a replacement for McGregor. Alexander has proved a more than competent replacement for McGregor in the past and played a major part in the run to the UEFA Cup final.
In addition to his goalkeeping crisis, Spurs boss Redknapp also has problems in defence with Jonathan Woodgate having suffered a series of injuries and Ledley King unable to play more than one game per week. The London club have been linked with a bid for McGregor’s team-mate Danny Wilson and could bring both player south to join ex-‘Ger Alan Hutton.

Tbh i would prefer james on a £1m permanant move. Who would you prefer?
Wouldn't mind this at all. He'd be good cover for Gomes.
COME ON YOU SPURS!!!
More and more of these will continue to pop up now Carlo is fooked.
Onder if we can claim on the warrenty for a broken keeper?
Wouldn't be happy with this at all. McGregor is a grade A tw@t who, along with his bum buddy Ferguson, stuck two fingers up to Scotland. His attitude stinks and I don't want him anywhere near my beloved Spurs!![]()
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs and blaming it on you ... you probably haven't a clue what's going on!
