This maybe very, VERY premature as the window has only been shut for a month, but now we have seen the squad in action against all sorts of teams (Top teams, the bottom teams, new boys, bruisers and lower league teams), we can now sort of tell where are squad is. Where we look strongest and where we may need some added quality. I've thought about this in the last few games and this is what I've decided.
In goal we look sorted. Gomes and Cudicini can play at the top whenever called upon, granted they both have some dodge moments, but which keepers dont these days?
Our problems in the centre of defence are obvious for anyone to see. No doubt that the centre backs we have are quality, but we all know the fitness trouble they face. When either King or Woody play, they bring the best out of Bassong and Dawson, they just dont play enough, we need a leader at the back at all times which leaves me thinking that Upson is the right option, but I feel that actually a better option would be Gary Cahill. Even though he is quite young, he has great leader skills, and in the long run, could be the perfect Ledley King replacement.
In midfield we look as strong as we ever have. Palacios, Modric, Lennon, Kranjcar etc are quality. I believe they could fit into any team in the prem. Huddlestone, Jenas and Bentley are great squad players, although people question their ability, or rather their consistency. Palacios is a great box to box player, but I think that we saw against Bolton that he needs a solid player next to him in the middle, and I think that, especially after reports in the last few days, that Sulley Muntari is a perfect solution. I know everyone loves the idea of Moussa Sissoko, but Harry will be able to lure Muntari, and probably at a cheaper price than what is wanted for Sissoko, and Sulley has proven he has what it takes to play in the prem.
Up top, we have more than enough options, but I think to fund transfers for the other two, Pavlyuchenko may have to be sold. It seems Harry doesn't rate him at all, and besides, Id rather Dos Santos is given more of a chance, even though many of you will say "HE ISNT A STRIKER".
I'm sure Levy will give Harry some cash, but not too much, so players like Bentley and Pav may have to be sold, but it already seems that they are surplus to requirements at the club. So a simple 2 in 2 out and two great additions in Sulley Muntari and Gary Cahill. . . . if football was that easy, eh?
I'd be very surprised if more than one comes in, in January, as with the new rules coming into play next season, the squad can only be 25 players big, and at the moment I think its about 27-28. So to incorporate any new signings next year we have to sell about 2-3 plus however many we buy to make the requirements. I know that this is a year away, but Harry will definately have this in mind....
I know i may get pelters for this, but i don't particularly want Muntari. I am in the minority that believe that one day Jenas will become a great player and that Huddlestone is starting to show his potential to be a truly brilliant centre midfielder. We have cover there in the shape of Modric and Kranjcar, so i wouldn't buy anyone to add to that position...
At the back, if Woodgate and King can't continue anymore, then that is a position that needs addressing. Dawson is quality in my opinion (and is very unlucky not to be considered for England if Cahill and Upson are.) and Bassong has looked promising since his arrival. Add to that Kyle Walker coming to us next year who could develop into that role, we possibly may need one more for cover.
In my honest opinion, I think our first XI rivals almost anyones and our squad aswell. Its just the consistency which is up to Harry and instilling a "Top 4" attitude. I wouldn't be to upset if we didn't buy anyone in January at all, and kept faith with the lads we have....
Dont hate me but I think we should sell keane he is a good captain no doubt but he isnt a consistent striker neither is defoe who is in goal scoring form and dont get me started on crouch. I think if we buy anybody it should be a star striker.
How can you possibly think that?!!? I guess its not good enough to have three strikers get a hat trick each by October. You only want a star striker because all the "big named" players are stikers these days. If Pandev gets his wish and can leave for free, I would fully be game for that, but why waste money on the posistion we are sorted in . . .
Cahill is a good shout, been impressed with him the last year.If Pav and Bentley are surplus to requirements, which they seem to be,i'd offload em to finance his capture, and that of Diego Forlan,i've always rated him.Upson seems a little too injury prone to me,we don't need to replace 2 problems with another one in the same position. And for a combative midfielder, how about nicking Mark Noble from the spammers, our little feeder club could do with the cash. He's young and british as well, which is gonna be important in the future, with the homegrown rule.
lol I am just being realistic
You are being anything but realistic. We have, if anything, too many strikers. We have two crippled centre backs, and two others that don't play half as good unless one of the other two are playing. Hmmm, I wonder which posistion is more realistic . . . .
how is that anything but realistic as we have 4 cb's corluka who can play as rb or cb and so can Huddlestone. On the other hand I never said our strikers are terrible robbie keane wont score everygame, defoe is our only good option, and peter crouch will give you an assist because of his height and experience but also wont score every game. What happens when defoe gets injured.
25 man first team squad. 25 man reserves squad. 50 man pool of players to pick from.
I dont know if this is how it will work but there will be some way round this particular new rule.
Lets face it it is a half arsed attempt by the PL to stop Fat Blat and Plat's attempts at stopping the dominance of the Premier league. They are jelous of the money and prestige being pumped into English football while their dog crap countries and leagues drop further and further back.
I say we splinter off from FIFA all together and run the prem under a diferent governing body. A bit of competition would do the sport good anyway. It would shake up international footy too.
Back on to the 25 man rule. Why dont we buy every player we want and send them back out on loan to the clubs we purchased with a stipulation that they can be recalled at any time for any length of time. We just pay the club an agreed fee and the % increase in wages we are offering the player and we then have another player on the books, available but not in the 25 man squad.
I think we need to give Willy some help in the middle if I am honest. The Hud and JJ have been showing their potential for the last 5+ years and if they aint stepped up to the plate by now then they aint gonna.
I desperately want Bently to come good but its just getting worse and worse for the lad and him being here is doing him and us no favours at all. unfortunately the same could be muted for the russian. Pav will be gone in jan along with DB no doubt.
Sisoko in
25+ million quid CB in.
And on a side note let the goon or what ever he is have his say. My world wouldnt be rocked if Keano left/jumped ship again.
i'd love either a cm or a left winger. but not both cause that would mean nowhere to play modders, it would have to be a top 4 quality player though caus we have a good squad, i'd love carrick back at the lane but its not realistic but id have harry monitoring him because he aint gettin much games at man u
i hope we get a top top class central defender soon as, im afraid to say, ledders wont last another season imo, we need a consistent centre back partnership to be successful, we need to pay big money for one, i dont no were wer gonna get one tho

A friend of mine went to the training ground the other week . There was one player that trained his ass off throughout training , as they left the pitch he came over to my mates lad and said let me show you around , he took him around ther training centre - showed him the facilities and then took him to the trophy room and told him all about Tottenhams history , the present players , the past players and what a proud club we are . My mate said he left Tottenhams training ground feeling 10ft tall for giving his son a great day . So we do have players that love the club that much and want to stay for the rest of their carreer .
