Harry Redknapp is going back to his old club Portsmouth with an £8m offer for David James and Niko Kranjcar.
The Tottenham boss, who has already signed strikers Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch from Pompey, is looking to bring in an experienced goalkeeper before Tuesday’s transfer deadline and knows James wants to leave Fratton Park.
The England goalkeeper is anxious to make sure his World Cup prospects are not damaged if Pompey continue to struggle, although Spurs face competition from Sunderland.
Redknapp has earmarked Pompey’s unsettled Croatia midfielder Kranjcar as a replacement for the injured Luka Modric, but has also revived his interest in Manchester City’s Martin Petrov and Rafael van der Vaart of Real Madrid.
He still hopes to sign Hondruas centre-back Osman Chavez on loan from Platense.

I like it - any raids on a Premier League team that weakens the side is good news for glory hungry Tottenham. James' experience is needed. Though Kranjcar? I have my reservations...please let VDV happen.

I doubt that David James will come to the lane but Kranjcar might happen.

Not so sure that kranjcar fits the bill after todays performance tbh . I think we could end up making a mistake with his weaknesses .

why should we spend money on another keeper? we have two already who can do the job. yes i know gomes is injured but it wont be for too long and what will we be doing with cudicini and gomes if we bring in a keeper the big clubs dont want? i see keep the money in your pocket harry and look for a replacement for modric on the left if you dont think gio and bentley cant do it for ya.

I don't see Portsmouth being willing to sell anymore players since their sale has finally gone through. They are going to have a hard enough time staying up the way it is, why would they guarantee themselves a demotion?

I think I read somewhere that Krancjar's contract is in its final year, and he doesn't want to stay at Fratton Park, so they could either sell him now (or in January) or lose him for nothing at the end of the year. James, I guess, is another matter.

You know my views on Cudicini . I don't see him as a true Spurs player, let alone a Yid.
Why would David James come to WHL? if his is going to be third choice or at best second choice. He is never going to be No1, ahead of Gomes. Which is what he would need to do to get back in the England squad for the World Cup.
Could it be that has Cudicini has given his intention to leave the Lane soonest. His body language gives that impression. I would have put my money on him leaving during the summer break.

I'm on the fence with Krancjar. Hes hot and cold sometimes. He has brilliant games then ****e games. David James is just not what we need ATM. He'll want first team football all year round because of the WC and he ain't going to get it here because of big bad Gomes. Either way tonight will tell.

James is carrying an injury also & had to miss Pompey's last game. I know its not a particularly bad injury but why would we sign another keeper when they aren't even 100% fit?

Also, I wouldn't judge Niko on current form. He is clearly not settled at Pompey anymore & Hart simply does not know how to get the best out of him. He always played his best football under Harry anyway.

How many Croats have played under Harry btw? Kranjcar, Suker, Modric, Corluka, Mornar, Bilic, Stimac . . . & those are just the ones off the top of my head, there's probably others!

I think James would be godd cover for Gomes. But, I can't see him getting the No. 1 spot.
Cudicini is a liability in my opinion, but we don't have to many options at the moment until Gomes has recovered. How long is he likely to be out for????

      Kranjcar, i'm uncertain about.
