We were looking at him a few years back, and according to a bunch of reports, he knows he won't see any time at Man City so both parties wouldn't mind him leaving. Even though he's 30, I would be pretty happy if we signed Petrov on the cheap his season. I've always rated him, and he wouldn't need time to adapt. That'd be a good LM for the next season at least.
With Spurs needing a left winger and Petrov probably leaving, I suppose this is a pre-emptive thread as I havn't seen him linked to anybody in particular as of yet. Would you welcome him?

Maybe a good short term addition to the left-side, Harry wants experienced players as well
Would prefer Krancjar, but not a bad option, if he is over his knee injury

He could be a good option for LM, though I think it's doubtful if he'd get much more time on the pitch here than in City ... Modric, Bale, O'Hara are ahead of him or at least contenders to that spot I reckon.
But welcome him? Sure - experienced player and a decent record too.
Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?
I like Petrov a lot, but I think Modric can do the job sooooo much better that it may not be worth signing him. Especially as we have players like Gio, Townsend and Rose that can all play wide left that just are not getting a go . . . yet.
I wouldn't say Bale & O'Hara would be ahead of Petrov! Not even close. Petrov is a real quality player & he would bring to the team an asset which Modric cannot really provide & that is a devastating left foot.
Having said that, I would still prefer someone like Van Der Vaart because of the versatility. If we buy Petrov it would be solely for the LW whereas a player like Van Der Vaart, who also has a devastating left foot, can play LW but also centrally & even as a striker. Van Der Vaart still wouldn't really be that traditional winger type that we are looking for, which Petrov is, but i still think he is the better option

Petrov is quality but with his age I dont know if i'd even bother bringing him in. The left side is a place where a youngster (Townsend, Rose) should be marked to take over. Bringing in Petrov for a season might not be a terrible thing but aside from that i cant see him offering much more.
seems too injury prone. would have preferred him back in the day before he joined citeh 'to get more regular first team football' (lol fail!)
TOTTENHAM 'TIL I DIE!
Yep would be happy with this for anything under £5mil... maybe 4.
Top quality player! My only reason for not wanting this is I would prefer to get Bale back as the 2nd choice lm and playing with confidence, something which is unlikely to happen should we sign Petrov.
Someone will pick up a decent bargain as long as he can stay reasonably injury free!
Martin Jol On building his Spurs legacy: 'This is one of the biggest clubs in Europe and I want to be part of its history,'
That is the most ridiculous thing to say.
Andros has only just turned 18 ffs! Give the boy a chance!
Modric IS NOT A LW!!!! He isn't even left-footed so he cannot do for us what both Danny & Andros can.
Of the 2, Andros is a proper LW & he will be a truly great player in the future. To say he will only ever be backup or good for the Championship is to dismiss his career before it has even got started & he is already too good for the Championship!!

we'll see where they are both playing in 2 years time?
and re: Modric, football isnt about RM, CM, CM, LM, its about having players flexible enough to play in a system, and Luka Modric 'from the left' is sheer class

£5m is a really good price imo. He's still got bags of pace and ability, but I'm still not convinced its a Left winger that we need.
i think hes absolute quality if im honest, yes the injuries are a worry but at his age hes in his prime,he looks like he takes care of himself and he bangs in a few goals a year too,get him in sharpish
Quality player, consistent aswell. gr8 left peg
