We are delighted to announce the signing of French Under-21 international defender Younes Kaboul from Auxerre.
The highly-rated central defender made 52 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, scoring two goals. He was a member of the team that won the Coupe de France in 2005 and went on to feature in the UEFA Cup.
Captain of his country at Under-21 level, the 6ft 2" 21-year-old was a member of the French Under-19 side that won the European Championships, staged in Northern Ireland in 2005.
"Younes possesses power, great pace and is good on the ball and strong in the air," said Sporting Director Damien Comolli. "He is a good leader who showed a great desire to come to us despite interest and offers from numerous other clubs.
"From day one he said 'I want to play for Spurs' and his personality made a big impression on Martin and myself. He has been a regular in the Auxerre first team for the past two seasons and is an excellent signing."
Manager Martin Jol added: "If you ask people in France who is seen as the hottest prospect in defence they will say Younes Kaboul. We are very happy to have him on board. It's important to have quality players in defence and with Younes, we have that."

Thank god for that. Possibly the most drawn out transfer in premiership history! Ive got a really badf feeling we aint goin to sign a left winger though. The word was that the Kaboul Transfer was around the £8m mark. I make that around £31m we have spent with Bale and Bent. Have we enough left to sign a world class winger. That was the one position we desperately needed to fill and I for one will be bloody fuming if it turns out we've spent £16.5m on Bent and have then not had enough to get a winger. Premiership kicks off 5 weeks on sat. We'd better have someone lined up.
On a slightly different point the money we have spent in the last 3 years is absolutely unreal. I'm not complaining, we've invested well and need to spend this sort of money to get back to the top. Where is it all coming from though? Has Levy got bottomless pockets?
I'm not convinced we need a left midfielder, bale can push up and has a left foot. Only a few premiership teams play with 2 out and out wingers and they mostly play with 1 striker (ie Chelsea and Man U)
So I'm not overly concerned to be honest. Maybe part of it is just being fed up with reading 'sign a left midfielder!!!' everywhere I go :5:

Still think the Petrov deal is all but done but athletico want a replacement before signing the release contract.
They keep trying to get left wingers bids for Reyes and Quesma etc..
he will be the last then we are sorted until jan
