According to reports in today's Dutch press, Tottenham and . . . guess who? . . . Manchester City, of course, were locked in talks with FC Twente over their promising young winger Eljero Elia in the International break. Twente want £9m for the 22yr-old, which seems a little steep, altho I'm sure Harry will be the man to knock 'em down a couple mill. Hamburger SV are also competing for his services altho I would imagine he would be more likely to come to the EPL, especially with McClaren's connections. If this is true, then so much for Dowing. Could Elia be the solution to our left-hand side?

Here's a vid to keep us entertained as they thrash out the details:

      YouTube - Eljero Elia

Notice him giving the scum hell in the CL? Good lad!

PS. I would post the link to the Sportsweek.nl site tht had the full story but its all Dutch to me! You'll just have to take my word for it!

PPS. Here's the link anyway, just in case you do actually speak Dutch! Voetbalnieuws - Hamburger SV, Spurs en Manchester City willen Elia - Sportweek.nl

From the video he seems to use his right foot alot more than his left, and i know alot of people on here are desperate for a proper left footed winger.

Looks decent, but would rather have genuine left footer and would prefer a person who is English to be perfectly honest!

Would like to have a proper left-footed winger. However, Elia appears to have skills. My favorite part, he seems to have a knack for putting the ball across the mouth of the goal.

      Would be a good addition.

Yes with Pavlyuchenko in the box you could pick up 2 goals easily.

Elia is two-footed. He does use his right foot more but he can go down the outside as well.

He can also play more centrally & as a striker too.

Its always better to have a naturally left footed player on the left as he is gonna give you natural width.

However if a right/both pegger can be disceplined enough to maintain that width then its all god in the hood.

Wingers can usually deliver better and earlier balls into the danger area too if they are on their natural side.

Harry is believed to be rivaling our old friend Martin for Elia's signature. Big MJ has already submitted a £7.5m bid for Eljero, hoping to attract the young winger to Ajax. However, Harry has been quick to react & the Times & the Guardian believe he is hoping to beat Jol & bring the Holland U21 international to White Hart Lane.

Elia has received huge plaudits for his performances in the Eredivisie last season & I would love him at Spurs, especially for that price. This kid is being touted as 'the new Robben', Holland's big hope on the left wing. If we could land him for around the £8m mark we will be laughing as his stock is bound to rise.
