Tottenham Hotspur Plan Summer Swoop For Manchester City's Martin Petrov – Report
Spurs want the Bulgarian international to fill the void on the left side of midfield. Petrov is reportedly falling down the pecking order at Manchester City...
3 Apr 2009 09:00:32
According to a report in the British tabloid The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are set to raid Premier League rivals Manchester City for Martin Petrov at the end of the season.
Although Spurs have been linked with Middlesbrough's England international winger Stewart Downing of late, it is claimed that they have turned their attention to the Bulgarian to solve their problems on the left side of midfield.
The 30-year-old made an impressive start to his career with the Citizens last season, scoring five goals in 39 appearances.
However, a knee injury sustained in October 2008 has limited his playing time this campaign, with the former Atletico Madrid star featuring on just eight occasions.
It is also suggested that Petrov has become surplus to requirements at Eastlands, with Robinho ahead of him in the packing order and more big name signings expected to arrive in the summer.
Apparently, the north London-based club tried to sign him when Martin Jol was manager in 2007, but he opted to join City instead.

COME ON YOU SPURS!!!
Doesn't he have the same attitude problems as the other Bulgarian we once had?
There is no point in pursuing this story. Petrov turned us down 2 years ago when his best mate was at the club, he ain't gonna want to come now. Also we could not give him his unrealistic wage demands as they would disrupt our wage cap. Tbh, we needed him 2 years ago when he was 28 & Berbs was still with us. He would have been phenomenal then. However, he's 30 now & I believe wingers are more susceptible to age than other positions.
King and Bongani,
King and Bongani bong!!
(watch out here they come!)
Will we stay or will we go now?
Will we stay or will we go now?
If we go there will be trouble
and if we stay we'll do the double
So Levy has got let us know
Will we stay or will we go!
Rafael, Van Der Vaart
ƒuck Chelsea & Frank Lampard
with a nick-nack paddywhack he'll be getting goals
when Lampard's too fat & old
COYSAFOYS
if we are going to buy anyone from city id love to see ireland coming to the lane been there best player this season but if they buy superstars in the summer can see him falling down the pecking order
got a fantastic work rate loves to see him at tottenham
and i think modric has been playing well on the left just like england showed the other night you dont need a Proper LW
No thanks, he had his chance 2 years ago. There are far better options out there now.
i'd prefer him over downing but he ain't that special, I suppose he would be good if cheap or good as back up but i can see him going elsewhere, probably to a lowly champions league club.
if his down the pecking order meens he aint playing to well in my books why would we want some other teams dead wood
£6m they reckon we'll be offering but I still can't see an agreement over his wages. If I remember correct, Petrov wouldn't go below £80k per week & I think he landed more like £90k per week by going to City. He's hardly going to drop his wages now, especially after he's shown how effective he can be in the Prem.
The only funny thing would be Berba will definitely start to wish he'd stayed at WHL. He has failed to impress the Utd faithful, barely even holds a regular starting poisition, & now his best friend, the one he swore he'd play in the same team again someday, might be coming to Tottenham!! lol! I actually think that the day we failed to sign Petrov originally was the day we lost Berbatov.

I did want him a couple of seasons back but not anymore. He is getting on and has a bad injury record aswell as high wages. I think there are better options out there than Petrov.
No thank you.
What about Yuri Zhirkov? Not heard his name mentioned too freely recently and he is an outstanding LW who can also play as LB. Imagine having a skillful winger that can tackle like a full back!!!
I have heard little rumours that the Chavs are going to add to their ever expanding squad by trying to nab him for £15m in the summer. I would pay over £20m for this guy especially as we were going to spend £15m on Downing (BIG Mistake).
Say he goes to the Chavs? That means Joe Cole would be even further down the pecking order with Queresma (move could be made permenant), Kalou and Zhirkov to compete with for a 1st team place. Joe Cole may also be tempted to move because of Harry being in charge too.
Go for Zhirkov as first choice. If we miss out make an immediate move for Cole. £20m should bag either one of them. Both mid 20's and both lethal.

Great shout dan.
I want Tunchay and Downing too when the inevitable happens to Boro.
