World Cup Hopes Could Mean Argentina Ace Fernando Cavenaghi Leaves Bordeaux
Despite scoring goals at a prolific level over the last 18-months in France, Fernando Cavenaghi may be tempted to pack Ligue 1 in so as to give himself the best chance possible to reclaim a place in his country’s national side before the World Cup.

Fernando Cavenaghi's explosive 2008 saw the striker score 26 times in Ligue 1, firing Girondins de Bordeaux into the Champions League. However, international recognition was not to be forthcoming from Argentina.
In an attempt to win back his place in the Albicelestes side, the prolific marksman has conceded that he may need to move away from the Stade Chaban-Delmas this summer.
“In June I will have a meeting with the president to discuss my future,” the four-time capped player revealed to radio station RMC. “If we’re lucky enough to qualify for the Champions League, I think we’ll sign a few players. I still want to stay in Bordeaux, but I also want to fight for a place in the Argentina squad that will go to the World Cup. It will be very difficult for me to do that here.”
Cavenaghi, who complained that head coach Laurent Blanc only used his as a substitute during this season’s Champions League campaign, made his international debut under Alfio Basile in March 2008 against Egypt. He has won three further caps but does not appear to be in Diego Maradona’s immediate plans.
There was interest shown in ‘Cavegol’ during the January transfer window. English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur were closely linked with a move for the predatory striker, who would likely jump at the chance to move to a club in the focus of the media.
At present, Cavenaghi is recovering from a knee injury. He began training again earlier this week but is not expected to make a competitive return for a fortnight. His Bordeaux side are currently third in Ligue 1, three points behind leaders Olympique Lyonnais.

Rumours are that Everton are closing in on him in a £14m deal.
Sorry Bass.![]()

Surely they can't afford £14m at the mo???
If they couldn't afford to buy a striker in January dear help them trying to buy one in the summer. If they could have afforded a striker they wouldn't have brought in such a big chance, Jo from Man City on loan.
