Tottenham have joined the hunt for in-demand Darren Bent after bidding for the Charlton Athletic striker's services.
The former Ipswich ace was always destined to leave The Valley this summer following Charlton's relegation, although Spurs were not thought to be the favourites for his signature.
Bent had been expected to join West Ham, with The Hammers reportedly willing to offer £17million to seal the deal plus a lucrative pay packet.
However, Spurs are not giving Alan Curbishley's side a clear run at the striker and have made an undisclosed bid for his services.
Should Spurs beat West Ham to Bent then striker Jermain Defoe's future at the club would be cast even further into doubt.
The England international is already third choice behind Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane so Bent's possible arrival could very well facilitate a swift exit for Defoe.
Defoe is alot better, for the money chalton want u could get a world class striker.

Yea, far too much money for a player who's no better than Defo.
and more than we paid for berbatov!

exactly defoe is much better than bent and there is no way in hell that we should pay 15 mill for him, we could probably get pedersen, petrov and another good striker for around 17 mill:23:
