News is coming thru that we are trying to land Sturridge from City, at least till the end of the season. He's a really good, young player that was one of their best strikers at the start of this season & has been frozen out a bit recently at Eastlands.

Looks like we'll have competition from Pompey who are trying to get him on loan. No word yet whether we're trying to get him on a similar deal or if we are after a more permanent move (perhaps an option to sign him permanently in the summer). It is certainly seen as a solution to Defoe's injury anyway & I would like to see him here long term asw he is definitely a face of the future.

Apparently the kid's contract with City will run out in the summer, so we could get him on a fee if we're clever about it. Pompey have offered him £23k/ week to move to Fratton Park tho, so we'll have to move quick.

Would he fill the void or just become another inexperienced youngster like Bale, Gunter, Gio, Campbell.......you get my drift. Sorry to sound negative Bass but its guaranteed goals we need now.

Well, he was scoring for City at the start of the season. I do totally agree with you tho & its why I'm very happy with who Harry has gotten in so far, they as close to guarantee us what we require from them as possible. However, with Defoe now out, we ned a quick fix & there is such little time left to launch a whole new bid. I can still see us maybe going for a big centre-forward, capable of playing up top on their own, but Sturridge would definitely be a realistic option & he could do a temporary job & it if it means we can get a hot, young prospect FOR FREE in the summer, I say go for him.

I watched him playing for City early on this season & he was very, very good & out of all their supposed 'world-class' strikers he actually offered the greatest goal-threat.

Also I wouldn't class him alongside Campbell & Gio as, like I said, he has played & performed at this level already & Bale & Gunter are defenders so we require something different from them anyway. Sturridge is strong & quick & has a helluva shot on him too.

having said all that, I do 100% see where you are coming from Dan.

I don't see either Campbell or Gio doing this for us in the Prem tho:

I'd rather get Benjani off Citeh. He's worked with Harry already and he scored plenty for him. He's out of favour due to the many forwads that City have and he could come quite cheap. Sure he's 30 or 31 years old but he'd be a great temporary option because he has EPL experience

I do see where people are coming from with the experience thing but seriously, Sturridge is one of the most exciting young strikers this country has produced in years & if we could nick him for free, we'd be laughing. I remember watching him play for their youth side once along time ago & he was the best player on the park by miles. He could definitely fill in for Defoe on a short term 3 weeks & we would then be set with a great future talent after that.

it could kill two birds with one stone, im not sure bringing young talent through is going to be citys main concern in the coming years so we could get him cheap as a part time replacement for defoe, and also it could prove properous in the future.

i saw him at the start of the season, and he looked a good player.. if we can get him on a free it would be insane not to.. i think him and possibly a target man and we're sorted up front.

Bottom line is he can put the ball into the back of the net and he makes a pretty decent lone striker in the case of a striker injury crisis. Whilst talking about who I'd rather have from City in that case I'd rather have Robinho from City

Sturridge played lone striker for City at the beginning of this season when they had injuries & he was putting the ball in the back of the net also tho, and he's only 19!

benjani does not put the ball in the net he was 1 in 4 at best last season hardly prolific hes also so clueless in and around the box dont rate him at all

Apparently Sturridge & City are arguing over his contract which could well see him leave the club! However, it seems that everyone is aware of the situation are looking at making a sneaky bid, Vila, Pompey, Newcastle, Chelsea, Blackburn & Hull are all watching. Come on Harry, do it quick!
