There is a report leaking thru that we may try and swap JJ for Everton's Leighton Baines. The Toffees have been after JJ & this could be our ideal opportunity to get the cover we need at LB. Baines is a superb young defender whose progress has been stunted at Everton due to the excellent form of Lescott.
However, he would not bring much experience into our backline he is definitely a lot stronger defensively than either Bale or BAE.
Moyes is not sold on the idea of losing Baines however (who would be?) but it could be a more viable solution for JJ than Wigan.

Sounds like a Redknapp kind of deal, swap one useless turd for another. Baines has faltered at mediocre as hell Everton because he's not good enough, not because of Lescot, who's not a LB anyway. Moyes only wants to keep him because he has a well balanced squad, unlike Spurs, and would need to then go and try to find a new reserve LB.
great deal. please do it
my mates a toffee and he doesnt really rate baines, but hes gotta be better than bale. why oh why would everton want to go and ruin such a good, solid, hard-working midfield by bringing in Jenas?
maybe moyes wants to bring him in to show the midfield how not to play ?

I think you need to turn the think switch on mate; Everton - while not exactly making headlines - are sixth in the table, 3 points behind Arse-nal and 6 behind Villa. Pretty sure that makes them more than "mediocre as hell".
You probably have a point about Moyes; he's smart enough not to want to mess with a good, balanced squad.
All that said, I don't know what to think about Baines, as I've not seen enough. I'd be open to the move, but I always wonder about buying what are essentially our rivals' (or those who we would've expected to be our rivals) reserves.
