Lurking amongst the latest transfer news on Setanta Sports I spotted a sentence saying that, despite having just signed Defoe, but we have made enquiries to Lyon over the future of Fred.

The Brazilian striker is known to want away from Lyon & a move back to Brazil was thought to be his preferred option. However, it seems as tho Spurs wish to further bolster our attack & he would bring something different than Defoe.

I think his wage demands are the problem. I don't know how much Lyon are after but they do want to sell & he wants to leave.

I heard £4.5m from another source as well.

Personally I don't think we need another striker in this window. We currently have Pav, Bent, Campbell and now Defoe (although aparently the fee hasn't been agreeed according to Football365?!?!).
Thats plenty of cover for my mind, what we really don't want is another striker who will force JD onto the bench again. Sure we should revisit the situation at the end of the season but for now im happy and would much rather Harry focus on our other problematic pisitions of left wing and centre defence (Matty Upson is rumoured to be in negotiations at £11m).

Fred wouldn't force JD onto the bench, more likely Bent out the door! Plus we do not know the extent of his injury, how long he'll be out for.

The problem is we all know Campbell is leaving at the end of term and we also have 2 possible BIG cup encounters that he'll be ineligible for.

We definitely need another striker. We need someone who can offer us something different tho, a big target man or somebody who can drop deep and play in the hole.

Arshavin would be ideal at the drop in striker role for us. I would still make a bid if his transfer fee was acceptable, especially with the Scummers dilly dallying around his transfer to them.

We've really only got 2 strinkers: Pav and Defoe. Campbell is a Manc who doesn't want to be here and Bent is garbage.

Sell Bent and buy Podolski, then send Campbell back to Manure and get Fred. There it is all sorted out!

I don't think Fred would cut it in the premier league. I know he has won a few caps for Brazil but Gilberto has won more and look at the state of him. All i have ever heard about Fred is him moaning about not playing, not getting enough money and wanting to move to another club. Not a character I want in and around the dressing room.
If we are going for another striker it's Podolski for me. I doubt it will happen though the Bayern Munich chairman has said that Fc Colgne had bid again and are only a tiny bit out on their valuation of him. If we are going to get him Levy better pull his finger out.

Everone needs to get Podolski of their minds. Podolski is only going to go to Cologne. He won't come to England & he won't succeed out of Germany.

Fred is actually very suitedd to the Prem & has a lot of skill. He is not the disruptive influence you seem to think he is. Yes he has not been particulary comfortable about not playing more at Lyon but then no striker would be.

Gilberto & him are completely different ball games, to compare them is crazy. Gilberto is passed hi est, unfit & was never a regular in the national side. Fred is much younger, is a much better player, coming from a championship winning side.

Whether Fred is what we need or not is, of course, a matter of opinion, but please stop going n about Podolski, both him & his club have made it clear he is not coming to England & his record from Munich does not warrant the risk either.
