i'm worried.....really worried....i want to believe in harry but 'saha and nelson' makes me nervous!

last january we were sitting 4th and still in the fa cup and CL but statistically the lowest scorers in the top half of the table....a quality dtriker would have enabled us to push on but instead we got only rumours of failed sensational bids - clearly designed to con us into believing we tried. The result was we fell away over the coming weeks and missed out on CL.

this season we are 3rd and still in the FA cup. We have scored more goals but are relying heavily on the likes of Bale and have dropped points at vital times due to poor finishing from our strikers. We still need a quality frontman to push us on - who knows, we could even challenge for the top position. so coming into January i was pleased to hear Harry say he wanted all our transfers completed at the start of the window to avoid any problems. Alas, once again nothing happened until deadline day, but worse than that we have come out of it with an ageing unfit striker and rumours of an even older and unfitter defender whilst losing decent squad players (2 defenders, a midielder, and a striker!).

May 2012 will be the test.....either top 3 with an FA cup success through goals from Saha and Neslon and we all hail Hary as the greatest mastermind in the world or disaster, no cup and slip to 5th behind liverpool and arsenal/chelsea and we all say "saw it coming in january...if only we'd bought a decent striker"

now i know Harry has got us this far and we should hae faith but its difficult, it really is.........

You're over thinking .... neither Pav, Bassong or indeed any of our other loan-outs were seeing much 1st team action. Far better for our potential stars of the future to be getting competitive playing experience instead of sitting on the bench.

Instead of Pav (disinterested) and Bassong (frustrated) we now have two players who, approaching the end of their careers, will be happy to 'sit on the bench', seldom used I'm sure but when called upon having the knowledge and experience to do what is required ....

Are they signings for the future, in themselves of course they are not, but with their presence enabling our youngsters, who are our future, to go and gain vital experience then these signings are indeed fantastic for our clubs future ....

'arry and Levy are no fools, Spurs were one of the first clubs to abandon the reserve side and instead loan out players to a competitive level befitting their development .... look at Walker's development as a prime example .... now virtually every top EPL side is copying our model, we've just taken it to the next level .....

NB - Good to see neither of them are cup-tied ..... could get a run out against the mighty Stevenage .....

It's matches against Stevenage that will be ideal for giving the likes of Saha and Nelsen a run out and allow us to rest key players. Lot on nonsense being posted by people on here regarding these signings but I think they are good replacements for Pav and Bassong. Time alone will tell though.

The new arrivals are just a stop gap before making the longer term deals with other players in the Summer.

BIG January sales rarely work, that was obviously the thinking.

It's not like Saha CAN'T score goals and it's not like Nelsen has been as shite CB.

I'm as unhappy about the quality of these signings as anyone, but we must not over react here! What we have done is swap two players rarely saw the pitch but constantly cried and moaned about it and disrupted the squad, for two new players who will rarely see the pitch but being older will be content with their role and cause far less trouble while also making a profit. Do I think Saha is good enough? NO! Do I think Nelsen is good enough? Again NO! But can they do a job for us in a pinch? Yes the probably can. If anything the most worrying event of yesterday was the loaning of Pienaar to Everton and Charlie to Laverkusen, I really do not think that thoses moves were very well thought out at all and it leaves us woefully short of cover on the wings (unless Harry is finally going to start using Gio, which I very much doubt) and at right back (since Younis has pretty much cemeted his position as a CB IMO).

All in all it really isn't as big of a disaster as some people seem to think as our first team (which is the equal of any in the EPL) is unaffected, and due to Harry's dislike of rotation we will use these players for every match possible. Yes we needed Back up for Ade, and after this window we still do, but Saha is probably more capable of providing that than Pav who quite frankly no longer gave a toss.

Guys what @contrast is saying is correct.

We made a big money bid for Remy of £20m and it was rejected.

Prices in January are massively inflated, we have to be smart and try to secure deals for the summer when 1. Players are cheaper & 2. Players are more open to moving.

Bass & Pav never played anyway and if you add their salaries along with Charlie & the others that have left we have saved a chunk of money to use in the summer.

Yes, it's a bit like the Sunderland board where many of the numpties there still can't spell Wickham.

Thanks yet again for your lone stance against spelling misteaks Rev. These 2 new chaps have very easy to spell names, imagine if we had signed that Everton chap Strackwalarsy!

Sorry but bassong is terrible absolutely terrible. Made me so nervous whenever he played. I would take Ryan Nelsen anyday over bass. And lets be honest Pav was becoming a dress room disruption. There is no need to panic yet
