This is just a post to rant because of our dire situation and the situation with Forlan.
Forlan is a player who has won the European golden shoe twice as well as the Pikichi trophy twice as well. He actually only scored more than 20 goals per season twice, but has always gotten more than 15 goals except for one season in Spain. Ignoring his time in Man Utd because I felt he wasn't ready then.
But the key thing about Forlan is his ability to link up play. He can drop deep and spread play as well as hit long range shots. This is the type of player we need for the 4 4 2 we play all the time. Defoe and Keane are the two who plays similarly but are much less effective.
Now the thing about Forlan is that he is well settled in Spain and is at the peak/twilight of his career. He has no reason to leave except to win trophies which is something Spurs cannot offer him. Teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man Utd, Chelsea, Inter and Bayern can offer that, but look at the teams who can honestly sign him. I'd say just Inter.
That is the problem isn't it?
On the day before Jorge Valdano was going to give 17 year old Raúl his Real Madrid debut,he went to see Raúl and said "I'm thinking of playing you tomorrow, but I'm worried you might be nervous." Raúl replied "Well, If you want to win, play me. If you don't want to win, put someone else in the team." Raúl Gonzalez Blanco <3
Levy wont pay the cash for him......
Steven Caulker is the messiah!
The skysports article sounds more like Forlan saying how no one came to approach him this summer rather than that he was settled.
Levy will buy someone before the window closes, that is for sure.
didnt athletico want to much for him as well?
I don't think Forlan would be worth the risk unless we can get him for peanuts.
this ship has sailed, imo...
problem is, I can't see anybody we can afford that can actually help us.
Ohh yeah? There is a name that has not been mention yet: Atletic's Fernando Llorente. He is exactly what we have been looking for. He does for Spain just what we need him to do for us.

Llorente is a poor man's drogba. Honestly I'd rather go for Kevin Doyle if you want to throw Llorente's name into the fray. I think on the ground llorente is better but in the air I do feel Doyle is better even though he seems smaller than Llorente. And since we evidently play mostly in the air, I vote for Doyle.
But anyways just to clear things up, I wrote a post about how a striker wouldn't be a solution to our problems and it might seem like a contradiction that I write how Forlan would be the answer. I should specify by striker I meant a huge battering ram like Drodba or Torres. Forlan for me is more intelligent in dropping back and linking play. He is something like Berbatov without as much flair but much more efficient for me.
I come to this conclusion watching Forlan in the la liga and the WC over the past 2-3 years. It is different when we watch football on TV when we are at the mercy of the camera man, in a live match you appreciate the off the ball running and movement which is what forlan offers. He is very good at dropping off to find space and play a one touch to a advancing midfield player. He is what we need because he offers options and a senior calming effect. I think the closest to Forlan is Defoe who drops off quite a bit to spread play, but he is first and foremost a striker, a poacher type of player.
Anyways Forlan won't join us because at least he gets to win the Europa with AM. With us, he'll be shining beacon in an average European team. Average comparing to the CL quality because thats where we have elevated ourselves to. Before this season we were a good team in the EPL, this season we elevated our company and compared to teams like Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern etc, we are way off.
Are you kidding? As soon as Llorente comes on when playing for Spain, the Spanish team starts targeting him with long balls.
Llorente is like Kuyt with skill, a work horse. he can hold the ball well, run at any defender and cause havoc (which is exactly what we need) setting the ball up for other players to score (not that he can't score him self).
