I am putting this in the transfer section as I thought it would be more appropriate here. If not then I guess a mod will move it.
I was going to post this in the ITK thread but that place is crazy at the moment and this would only further add to it.
Basically I am interested in knowing the feelings of the majority of the forum members. If I knew how to set this up properly as a poll I would have. Anyways, wanted to put out a few questions / scenarios that I believe to be realistic (based on ITK banter mixed with a little SSN).
Thanks in advance if you reply

BALE AND YOUNG DEBATE
Is Young a waste of money when Bale is arguably the best LW in the Prem at the moment?
Should we potentially jeprodise the good thing that we have going with Bale by moving him to LB and presuming that he and Young will work the flanks efficiently together?
WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT?
League?
Champions League?
*****************************
For what it's worth my options would be:
Fabiano + Diarra in.
Keane, Jenas and Hutton out.
Young would be a good addition. However if we were going to start playing Bale at LB then I can only see this working in a 4-5-1 where there is an appropriate DMC disciplined into covering the left. The only other way I can see this happening is if we drop Modric. Diarra as DMC but Huddlestone and Palacios / Sandro as the central 2 would allow Diarra to hold his position and leave the covering for one of the central 2. I know you could still ask Modric to do this but I see him as too lightweight for that kind of role. Either way our potential on the wings would be amazing. Possibly best in the league amazing.
And finally I see us retaining 4th or even improving our league position as far more important than having a good run in the CL.
Out in the group stages but 4th or higher would make me extremely happy!
Sorry the post was so long. And please feel free to add things that I may have missed.
Happy debating!![]()

Great thread! Thanks for posting!
Question 1:
Fabiano+Diarra
Gives us the flexibility to both rest players in the League and play different formations when we need to. To me, Diarra should be the number 1 priority.
Question 2:
Keane, Jenas, Hutton, and O'Hara out.
Question 3:
Not sure how I feel about Young. I could see it working AS LONG as we have these two first. However, Bale is playing SO WELL right now that it makes me hesitant. It it ain't broke don't fix it sort of thing. At the same time, the idea of a Bale-Young left side is INCREDIBLY mouth watering. I guess I'd be happy with either situation.
Question 4:
To me, League is FAR more important than CL. I would love to have the glory that comes with doing well in the CL, but the ideal situation would be advancing to the Round of 16 and losing quickly, or finishing 4th in the group so that we don't have to play Europa. In order to maintain our position as a Champions League team, we NEED to retain 4th in the league. I think that is made easier by not having the insane amount of traveling and extra games brought on by the other two leagues. Of course, I will be hoping that we can go as far as possible in all competitions, but I think that would be the best situation for us.
1. Maybe I'm just being greedy and it might not work but how exciting would it be to get Hunt and Fab?! Diarra is the (imo) world class central midfielder that we need to take that step up and I'm praying we get him. I would like to see Young added to the squad BUT only after the 3 previous names and not for anything more than 15 mil, although would be happy to swap a few out as part of the deal. However....
2. Playing Bale at LB has to be out of the question now - he is the best midfielder in the prem at the moment, no contest. Can Young play right wing as well? Because if so he would be a brilliant option for us over a long season should Bale or Lennon be unavailable and would be satisfied given the amount of games we're gona have.
3. Keane/Bentley/Jenas part of a Young swap deal? Or just sold will do. O'Hara can go. Keep Gio, he's looking good so far this season. Could we use Hutton as RB cover for Corluka? Is there room for him in the 25 squad? Even with those 2 strikers in (I can dream) I think we might need 5 strikers this year (although someone's bound to get pissed off...) and should maybe hold onto Pav, Defoe's already injured. But if we only get 1 of Fab or Hunt then definitley keep Pav.
4. League finish has to be more important but if every thing I'm asking for in this post worked out we'd have a team capable doing well on both fronts. Hopefully whatever happens in the market between now and deadline will allow us to do that - as long as we don't leave/find ourselves short in any position (striker?) this season.
Been refreshing the page on this forum all day waiting for a signing! Ah well, we'll be out of our misery soon. In the meantime, let's kick the shit out of Wigan - COYS!
1. Transfers in? - Fabiano and (if Hutton goes), cover for right full back. No-one else.
2. Transfers out? - Keane and Hutton.
3. Ashley Young? - Absolutely and categorically NO!!!!!! We just don't need him. I'd rather blow the budget on one brilliant striker. Our wings are not a problem. I live in Birmingham and mix with Villa fans every day. They think he's good, but they don't rate him as highly as some people on here seem to! If he's so brilliant, why doesn't he feature more for England?
4. League or CL? - To me, the CL is an added bonus. We're really feeling our way in the competition, this season. Kinda dipping our toes in the water, to see what it's like. But, the league is our bread and butter. We need to finish in the top 4 again. If we get past the group stage of the CL, I will be more than satisfied. But, once we've done that, our priority has to be the Premiership, to make sure that we get a CL place for the 2011/12 season - and THEN, we can kick on in Europe!
Thanks, Holiday Ham! Nice post!
RANSFERS: What would you prefer?
IN: Fabiano and Diarra. I would also add Suarez and a RB to my shopping basket
OUT: Jenas, Keane, Pav and Hutton
Ashley Young - Waste of money, the money Villa want for him is nonsense. I would rather we got Valencia's Mata
WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT?
Finish in the league above the Gooners and as far as the CL goes, I wouldn't mind getting knocked out after making it to the last 16.
Harry Redknapp: "I sorted out the team formation last night lying in bed with the wife. When your husband's as ugly as me, you'd only want to talk football in bed"
Great Post Buddy.
IN: Fabiano and Diarra
OUT: Keane, Hutton, O'Hara and Jenas
YOUNG: Simply don't need him. He is a good player but Bale is the best Left Winger in the league at the moment.
PREM OR CL: Premier League definitely. It is fantastic to be here and I hope we give a good account of ourselves but at the end of the day we want to be here again next season. It will be far more difficult to qualify this season which is why it is massively important to make the right signings in Fabiano and Diarra to cement our place in the top four.
TRANSFERS:
IN: Fabiano + Diarra - I think Fabiano looked really good at the world cup, and can definatly play as a lone striker, which gives us the option of putting 5 men in midfield on those tricky away european games. I think we've got a decent strike force, but no play stands out as a top-quality striker, and to be a consistant top-4 team, we need one. Fabiano's our best bet at the moment, even though he's cup tied until we get to the last 16...lol. Diarra is needed because I think Palacios has been in poor form for too long for it to be just a run of bad form. I love the way the guy plays, and I don't want him sold, but I think that Diarra would play that position much better.
OUT: Keane, Jenas, Hutton - If we bring in Fabiano, or any other striker, one will have to go. I think our best bet would be selling Keane. I think he's past it, and a shadow of the player he once was. However, I think he will still command a transfer fee greater then his worth based on his reputation. I think we'd be better off selling him while we can still get good money.
Jenas...well I don't need to explain this one...
Hutton's simply not needed anymore. We have Corluka, a highly rated Kyle Walker, Kyle Naughton and Kaboul who can do a good job out on the right. He's surlpus to requirements.
BALE AND YOUNG DEBATE:
I didn't put Young as one of the players I'd like bought in, but I still think they could work together. Young likes to cut inside and can play as a striker. I'm not saying use him as a striker, but that ability allow him to perform well infront of goal when cutting in.
I think because Bale's so good going forwards, people think he's a better winger then left-back. I don't think this is the case and I think he's much more effective making runs from left-back, where he can see the whole pitch. We all know how hard it is to defend against these types of overlapping players. I think BAE is too inconsistant. He has great games, but also can play like an utter clown, and we can't afford to have players in the first 11 like that. So I do think a left winger would definatly improve our team, I think a striker and a player like Diarra would improve it more.
WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT?:
LEAGUE.
As awesome as being in the CL is, I don't want it to be a one-off adventure for us. The only way we are going to be CL regulars, is to focus on the EPL this year and the next, until we have a team who can compete on both fronts. This is why I think we should bring in a striker, cup-tied or not (obviously the player might have issues with that).
Say if we made a massive run in the CL, got to the Semi-Finals or something, but finished 5th in the league. I know I'd rather we'd gone out in the first knockout round and got 4th+.
We must also get rid of Kaboul, he is a waste of space. I was glad when we sold him to Pompey, I've not a clue as to why we purchased him back. He is the worst player in a spurs's kit.
Harry Redknapp: "I sorted out the team formation last night lying in bed with the wife. When your husband's as ugly as me, you'd only want to talk football in bed"
Bit harsh mate. He did miss a sitter at the end but I thought he played quite well. Far better at Right back than he is in the middle.
I don't think he is anywhere near as good as Charlie, in fact to me there is no difference between him and Chimbonda! Does that clear things out?
Harry Redknapp: "I sorted out the team formation last night lying in bed with the wife. When your husband's as ugly as me, you'd only want to talk football in bed"
I'm thoroughly disinterested in everyone at the moment.
Jenas and Hutton can go. Hutelaar on a loan to buy with Diarra. Don't fancy Young, nothing much better than we have.

IN
Suarez -
It wont happen but this is the guy we need, we dont need a RB both Naughton and Walker can play there, Kaboul is not good enough.
OUT
Keane
Jenas
Hutton
Just get rid of these
BALE AND YOUNG
Young is right footed but is used on the left, dont see the need to spend big money on him tbh.
WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT
After today"s poor performance against Wigan, it has to be the 4th spot in the PL
I just don't think there is anyone interested in Jenas or Hutton at the moment. With Jenas, you can hardly say he has been played much recently. He's pretty much been an absentee for well over a season. A game here, a couple of games there and thats it. It's not much to go by. We might get lucky and get a late minute loan deal for him but a transfer is out of the question. I still rate him as a decent midfielder. You can end up with a bad impression of him if you read this forum too much. He's a decent midfielder. Just not what Spurs are looking for.
I strongly suspect Gio will be offloaded pretty soon. I have my own reasons to believe this. I'm not entirely happy that he could leave because he hasn't really been given a proper chance. If he does leave we will regret it big time. He's basically a Gareth Bale waiting to be given a run of games that make a man out of him. But with Niko and Bentley and Lennon I think he may not ever get a proper run of first team football that he needs.
