Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy tells disgruntled fans in email exchange: 'We do not have the resources of Manchester United and Barcelona'
*Levy says club are doing "everything in our power" to improve squad
*Transfer market "quietest since the formation of the Premier League"
*"Everyone has forgotten" about the purchase of Brazilian Sandro

      EXCLUSIVE
By Wayne Veysey | Chief correspondent

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy today took the unusual step of directly emailing Spurs fans to explain why the club have failed to make a splash in this summer’s transfer market.

After apparently being personally quizzed by email, the normally low profile Levy responded with a lengthy defence of the club’s failure to land their targets, specifically mentioning Scott Parker and Joe Cole by name.

He said there was little liquidity in a market that was “the quietest it has been since the formation of the Premier League” in 1992 and admitted that Tottenham “do not yet have the prestige or resources of clubs such as Man United and Barcelona”.

Levy said fans had also seemed to have forgotten that Brazilian midfielder Sandro, who joins the club next month, had been captured from Internacional.

The robust three-part email was sent to a supporter called ‘Chris’, who posted it on to the ‘Come On You Spurs’ messageboard. There was also a second, shorter exchange with a fan called ‘Andy’.

In the first email, Levy wrote: “Please be under no illusion as to my ambition. However I would like to point out the following.

“1. The transfer market is the quietest it has been since the formation of the PL. We need liquidity in order to trade players. Very few clubs have any money as the recession has hit us all.

“2. Everyone has forgotten we have made a major purchase recently....Sandro.

“3. It is easy to say player X is not good enough but harder to say player Y is better. Then even if you find such a player you have to have an agreement that the player would come and the club would sale. West Ham won't sale (sic) Parker even if he may have a desire to come or Joe Cole decided that he would rather make a fresh start outside of London and therefore opted for Liverpool.

“Every transfer window I strive to improve our squad but as our quality has improved it has proved harder. We also have to be realistic that we don't yet have the prestige or resources of such clubs as Man United and Barcelona. However that doesn't stop Harry and I doing everything in our power to improve.”

Ahead of the Champions League qualifier first leg against Young Boys, he added: “Let's hope for a massive win tonight.”

In a second, shorter email, the Spurs chairman wrote: “I note your comments but it is very easy to say player X is not good enough until we are faced with the challenge to find better. It is a sign of our progress and our biggest challenge.....to progress. Harry and I will do whatever we can deliver.”

so a man like levy would use the sentence, "West Ham won't sale Parker"?.....

No, I didn't think so either.

If you've ever read a Levy letter or press announcement , then you would know just how erudite and well crafted his missives are .
