Seriously, the jokes would be never-ending. He has THE most unfortunate of names but, actually, I was very impressed with the Chilean Waldo Ponce in the recent World Cup. Now, reports in Chile are claiming that Waldo is preparing himself for his big move to Europe a whole host of clubs are said to be interested.

Zaragoza seem to be the favourites but Spurs are mentioned among others, including (of course!) both Wigan & Sunderland.

Tbh, I would think we are probably the least likely to land him as most untried South/Central American players who arrive in England almost always head to one of Wigan or Sunderland 1st. However, maybe we should try a little harder this time as, from what I've seen, they almost always do well at those relatively small clubs & then the likes of us ends up buying them anyway for significantly more - thinking specifically of Palacios.

Ponce probably has better pedigree than most of them also having already earned a significant amount of caps for a very strong Chile side & having recently performed so well at the World Cup. I certainly would not say no &, if we are looking for a defender, I'm glad we are at least enquiring about Ponce.

That name tho! Well, at least its just a name, rather than a description - which is (allegedly) more than can be said about a certain local, rival manager!

Looked very very good in the World cup and my pals would not believe me when I told them his name was Ponce.

I thought he was very tenacious and battled well. Stood up when needed and made important tackles again when needed.

One thing is for fookin certain though...................WE STILL NEED CB COVER FOR WOODY AND KING. Ryan Shawcross please.

I actually think he will probably go to Zaragoza. I'm not sure what sort of money his club want for him, but I would imagine it is less than the £10m many of the players we've already been linked with are valued at & altho he does not have the Prem experience, from what I've seen of him he would not have a problem fitting in over here.

Apparently Zaragoza nearly got him in January & still want him but the World Cup has increased his value. The article reckons he will cost an extortionate $3.5m!!! He has to be worth that surely!!

However, he is only half owned by his club, the other half is owned by 3rd parties which would obviously have to be bought out should he come to England.

I didnt notice the brother much in the WC, i wish i had watch more Chilean games now. Come what ever, we need a centerback before a striker. It should be long term though. I heard some talk on Marquez from Barca but Idk if that was a go. This transfer stuff is wearing me down.
