Harry Redknapp has insisted he is not looking to bring in James Milner, Ashley Young or Phil Jagielka.
The Tottenham manager is keen to bolster his squad with three further signings ahead of the transfer deadline and has been linked with Aston Villa duo Milner and Young.
Milner is set to speak with Villa about his future after being identified as a possible target by big-spending Manchester City.
If a switch to Eastlands does not go ahead, speculation has suggested that Spurs may try to snap him up.
Milner's team-mate Young has also been connected with a move to White Hart Lane, with Villa boss Martin O'Neill admitting that he does expect interest in the winger.
Redknapp admires both Milner and Young but says he has not approached Villa about either player and has no intention of doing so.
Asked about Milner, Redknapp told Sky Sports News: "No, we wouldn't be able to.
"Anybody would like James Milner, he's an outstanding young player, but he'd be way out of our depth."
On Young, Redknapp added: "Again, I wouldn't think they'd want to sell Ashley Young.
"He is a good player but he belongs to Villa. We've not made any enquiries for him at all."
Defensive swoop
Redknapp is considering a defensive swoop with Jonathan Woodgate certain to miss the start of the season and Ledley King also struggling with his fitness.
However, he has ruled out a move for Everton's Phil Jagielka and still believes there is a chance that King could be ready for the big kick-off.
Questioned on whether he would be targeting a new centre-back, Redknapp stated: "It's a possibility.
"I am hoping Ledley might be OK. His knee is swollen at the moment but it goes down so we will have to wait and see."
Asked specifically about Jagielka, the Spurs manager continued: "A good player again, outstanding player, but we wouldn't be in the market for someone like that."
Redknapp remains in the market for a third goalkeeper and hopes to push through a loan deal for Croatian Stipe Pletikosa.
"I think Daniel (chairman Daniel Levy) is talking to him and there is a possibility of loaning him," Redknapp revealed.
"We have two outstanding goalkeepers in (Heurelho) Gomes and Carlo Cudicini but I do feel that maybe we need three keepers with European games coming up.
"It is something we are interested in doing."
Whats he mean Milner is out of our depth.Maybe Villa's valuation of him is but certainly not his footballing abilities.
ummm what is hary lookin for we've all ben lookin at this players were linked with ..but i wonder who are we going to sign ..we have been linked with alot of left midfielders is this what is harry looking for ??
they probaly throw alot these rumours out themselves so the press dont catch on to who he really wants
Was hoping we would be in for Young but not the end of the world "Again, I wouldn't think they'd want to sell Ashley Young.
"He is a good player but he belongs to Villa. We've not made any enquiries for him at all." Sounds like he would buy him if he had that chance but he knows the chances of us landing him is abysmal.
Milner is going to get 200k a week from Manc, that is well outside our wage scale.
Don't need Milner. We have more than adequate cover on the left and the right.
We need a forward who can play up front on his own and maybe another midfielder.
Defense I thought was a problem, but I am so impressed with Kyle Walker that I really feel we have the ideal cover for King at the club already.
Our squad was already strong, but some of the youngsters coming in are pure quality and Taarabt seems to have grown in stature since his loan spell at QPR. Believe this lad can make it if Harry hdles him correctly.
yh i think taabart can do well this year, same goes with dos santos. But why not give rose the LM role and bale left back lol. or even gio? and obika as the lone striker haha were set!
When is Harry going to realise that King and Woody are not going to be reliable enough for a CL campaign as well as a decent EPL season.
A player like Jagielka seldom comes up for sale and with us being able to offer CL footie its the perfect time to table a bid.
I dont like whingeing about Arry's antics but for the love of god will he please just sign the players we need in key areas so we can be ready for Citeh in 19 DAYS time ffs!
"There's a fine line between madness and genius - God removed that line and replaced it with Gazza"
It seems everyone is waiting on Man City to finish their business before anyone else can make a move, incredibly city are still in for Dzeko and Balotelli and have said Ireland and Richards are not for sale , its a merry go round !
what are city going to do with adeboyour, santa cruz, robinho, Carlos teves, Jo, Bellamy, and Caicido. If they buy Dzeko, Ballotelli and Torres (linked more and more often over last few days) then they're going to sell half of those strikers. The only ones worth them keeping are Adeboyour and Carlos teves. I can't see how any star would really want to end up in a squad with that much competition. Half those won't be sold because there wages are to high for other clubs to pay.
