Harry has come out and said that both Woodgate and King are having serious fitness issues. Bassong and Dawson look like they will be starting the season. After that, our only player that I would trust in the middle is Kaboul (although it is true that Corluka, Huddlestone, and Walker can play there). I know we need a goal scoring striker, but does anyone else think at this point that a top center back is a greater priority than a striker?
I for one would take someone like Naldo or Luisao over almost every striker we've been linked with other than Forlan and maybe Falcao.
Both Necessities i'd say, not one other the other.
Yeah we're in need of a new classy center back, but fire power is also required for this season. They are both really important more important than any midfield concerns we have right now at least. We have 5 CBs but Woodgate and King sorta count as one in my opinion so more like 4
We need both, stat.
Agreed with everyone else. At the moment CB might be a bit more of a concern but we really really really need to have the option of playing a 4-5-1. To do this we need a striker who is capable to play in such a formation. None of the guys currently in the squad can do this throughout an entire season. Then again having Kaboul as the third CB on the team doesnt thrill me. Either way they are both positions of need.
<------ Arsene Wenger
While not thrilled, I'm not scared either, just worried. In Harry we trust.
After seeing walker play in ny he'd be a nice edition I think he needs time to adjust and Charlie can play there as well bc he did play there in ny too so I think we have the cover for now with kaboul also. I feel we need that special striker
Addition* not edition ffs
Honestly I just don't see the point in overpaying for a lone striker, because I think teams have figured out that we are desperate for one, only to have a player like Cardozo come in and score ten goals all season. I'd much rather see a 442 with the strikers dropping deep, in the end, it's more or less the same thing and suits our players better. In the Chelsea and Arsenal victories, we played with the one of the strikers dropping deep (Defoe or Pavlyuchenko often in our own half) because we weren't sure on Modric's ability to cope in a physical central midfield, so usually we had;
Defoe/Pav
Rose-Defoe/Pav-Lennon
Modric-Hudd
And we can argue that that is when we played our best football. Also, Defoe held up the play well, just look at the replay of Bale's goal v Arse.
Inter played with three forwards, so I don't see why we can't do something similar.
I'd really like a top center back, I'm not a 100% comfortable with Bassong/Kaboul in the back line. Naldo and Luisao should be top targets, in my opinion. That's not to say we don't need a striker that can score, I'd just rather sure up our defense first. "Offense wins games, defense wins championships."
Naldo/Luisao/Shawcross
Forlan
Bellamy
Jenas
Keane
Hutton
= Great window.
Seeing how Bellamy had a 10 minute run out for citeh today, tells me he's coming
This weekend was the best opportunity for Redknapp to speak to Man City players...lets hope there's been agreement.
I'd like to get Richards and bellemy only if he agrees to be a bit part player and on the cheap. He could do a job off the bench.
