That special signing...

All this transfer talk is boring me: Luis Fabiano, Craig Bellamy, Diego Forlan etc. We've got just under a month before the season starts and we ain't signed anyone yet. I think we do need a special signing this season if we are to state our intentions but to do this we have to 'break the bank' (something Levy doesn't like to do). I think Arry and Levy are happy spending money on average type players e.g. Crouch, Bellamy (if that happens). I would like to see us once in a while make a big transfer. Luis Suarez had a good World Cup and has a good goalscoring record for Ajax (he can even play in goal lol). Edin Dzeko would be great but Wolfsburg want £50 million for him. I don't think Arry likes to pay over-the-top transfer fees. I'm not saying we should be like Citeh and pay ridiculous wages e.g. Yaya Toure on £200,000 a week. But why can't we just balance the books e.g. Luis Suarez want's £90k a week then sell some fringe players like Keane & Hutton to balance the books. It's good to have a wage structure but because we have it we can't get the special players who demand high wages. I'm not too bothered if we pay a striker £90-100k a week but if we balance the books and they bang in the goals then I'll be happy.

We have a wonderful opportunity to sign some special players (due to us being in the Champions League) but I feel we are throwing it away by not offering high enough wages

I reckon we'll make our signings at the end of this month, plenty of time to play in the last 3 games of the preseason. I think we'll get our big signing at the same time and I hope its Suarez

Dzeko isn't going to happen. I bet either Manc or Inter. I wanted him above all else but it just isn't in the cards for us after the wages he can demand from Manc/Inter/Milan.

That said, Suarez is young, can easily grow with the club, and won't totally break the bank. With the insane numbers flying around for Forlan and Fabiano, Suarez seems like our best bet. Personally, I would be more than happy picking up Cardozo and Falcao.

I agree with signing a big name, always have. I like Saurez b'coz he has proven scoring record. But is he better than say Torres? Asamoah Gyan has tremendous ability and wouldn't cost much right now, and is better than Torres.

I gotta agree with the two above as well. We need two key things in my opinion. A striker who can play alone if need be and a central defender to help out. Ledley is pushing his limits I think and we need someone to count on when Ledley can't go.
