Reports in Italy claim that it is not just Simon Kjaer at Palermo that we are chasing but also their Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani.

As much as I would like to think this is true, I'm just not sure we have the cash to splash €30m on 1 player at the moment, especially if we're looking at getting Van Nistelrooy in on a free.

Any thoughts on Cavani? He might just suit us a little better than RvN in terms of working with Defoe &, at 22, he certainly has more of a future.

      Translation: Tottenham want Cavani

Here are all his goals for Palermo:

They are quite random, aren't they.

However, there were reports that we were with Walter Sabatini in London the other day. Those reports claimed we were enquiring over Kjaer but we could easily have asked about Cavani.

      It ain't gonna happen tho

. . . still, its worth the discussion whether, if we get rid of Pav, would RvN on a free be the best replacement or someone like Cavani for big money?

Get RVN on Loan untill the summer, then bring in a big money signing when we have champs league and can attract a better quality of player. Best way to do it IMO.

He is a quality player, but Palermo have overpriced him and their president Zamparini is one tough negotiator and will hardly budge from his valuation. Has to be a no from me.

Well, well, well. We all heard how Mr Redknapp met with Sabatini, Palermo's sporting director, in the last transfer window & we all anticipated a move for their young Danish CB, Simon Kjaer.

Well, it seems he is not the only player we are looking at as Harry has admitted in the Italian press that we are tracking Palermo's talented, young, Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani:

Italian: Reterete 24 - NEWS - ESCLUSIVA RR24. IL MANAGER DEL TOTTENHAM: "SI, CI PIACE CAVANI"

      English translation: Google Translate

Harry was interviewed by Italian internet publication reterete24.it. Google translations are a little bit back to front so here is my version of what he said:

"Cavani is having a great season, in extension to what he achieved already in the previous season. He is a versatile player, as good in attack as he is tracking back. He would be well suited to English football.

Spurs are following what Cavani is doing in Serie A, as we follow many players around Europe. My scouts have compiled positive reports on him and I have personally gone to watch a few games at Palermo. However, the fact we are watching him does not mean that there is a deal in place. I think we will decide before the end of the season. Perhaps in the future Cavani can be a really good player at Spurs.
      "

      Interesting news.
If we were to plug for Cavani or someone like Cavani, in the summer, surely that would mean that Pavlyuchenko is still on his way out.

Wouldnt Cavani set us back around £20m though?? I couldnt imagine that kinda deal happening unless we made the UCL.

Celtic wouldnt be able to afford him I dont think.

It would be Pavlyuchenko or Keane. Dont be surprised if its Pav though.

Not necessarily. Italians often say their players will cost silly money only for them to move on for considerably less.

There are a couple interesting thing that Harry says. Altho he says no deal is currently in place, he also says that we will know before the end of the season. That might've got lost in translation tho & it might mean he will know whether we are going to pursue Cavani by then or it might mean we will have already bought him (similar to how we brought Modric in before the summer window). It is clear that Harry is very interested in the guy tho & whilst I don't see him costing £20m, he'll certainly cost us about the same as Pav.

As much as we all love Pav I think we have to resign ourselves that he has never truly settled in England. I don't think that is anything to do with Harry or Pav's lack of games but more his family & himself not really immersing themselves in English culture. From day 1 he moaned about the standard of the schools for his kids & he refused to eat the local nosh, instead holding out for his wife's Russian cooking. He even admitted to not going out at all in London for a good year or more & even tho he seems to have found a few places to visit, they are nearly all Russian restaurants. The fact Pav is refusing to learn English & surrounds himself with Russian friends (he even celebrated New Year on Russian time!!) speaks volumes really & I think Pav's heart is set on a return home. Perhaps the whole reason we blocked Pav's move this winter was precisely because Cavani was not allowed to leave & perhaps the whole reason we were holding out for that little bit more for Pav was so that we could pay up front for Cavani - I'm hypothesising now tho!

Not that I would complain about this signing, but I am much more concerned about adding a box to box CM than adding a striker.
