Right, this has really annoyed me so I've come on for a rant.
The new iPhone software became available today and the 1 good feature it was adding (apart from things that should have been there already like MMS) was tethering. This means you connect it to your laptop and you can use it to get online anywhere with a mobile internet connection (most places these days). Just like the 3 or t-mobile internet dongles.
So I got the update this morning only to find that if I want to use the tethering I have to pay o2 a further £15 a month for a 3Gb allowance. Now I already pay for a contract that includes 'unlimited internet' so that's a kick in the crotch to start with. Then you look at the cost of £15 for 3Gb, if I got one of the 3 mobile internet dongles it would also cost £15 a month but would give me 15Gb!
So if I want to use the iPhone for tethering I have to pay for something I already pay for and I'm not even getting a good price!
Just to add to my annoyance most other phone networks that have a data tarriff allow you to tether as standard.
So in conclusion o2 are a bunch of pirates and I will now be seriously considering Jailbreaking the phone as a jailbroken iphone could have been tethering for the last 6months and apparently o2 can't tell if you're tethering or just usung your iphone for the net.

I have an iPod Touch and i'm so glad i don't have the iPhone, it is soooo overated!
Not sure what to put??
The touch is basically an iphone without the calls mate!!!
I wish i'd got the phone and jail'd it.
You get a message pop up that says about a new update when you plug it into the computer and the itunes comes on. Just click the button and it takes you to a screen where it shows you the charges and the benefits.
You do no you can jailbreak the touch aswell as the iphone? You can get stuff you pay for for free and customise it to hell. I have not done it but i have read about it.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Any more info mate?
I hate paying for sh!t, you know me!!!
iPod Touch Jailbreak - Install 3rd party applications on your iPod Touch
That might help mate, you can find alot out on google.
Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone. True, I use it more as a mobile Internet device than a phone but it gets used constantly. Still if it's only o2 doing them when my contract is up I'll have to look into what alternatives are available.
Anyone got a different smartphone? If so what's it like? I've read there are a few decent competitors to the iPhone out or coming out soon.
My friend jailbroke his so I'm gonna have a chat with him before I do it but it's looking more and more likely.

ive been just given something in work called a SAMSUNG OMNIA in work ,its a fooking nightmare to use plus the battery is pony
old thread i know but, do i jailbreak my iphone4? have heard good and bad tbh, also, is it easy to do and do you really get a lot more for it?
it is better to fail aiming high, than to succeed aiming low,
and we spurs fans have set our sites very high,
so high in fact that even failure will have in it
an echo of glory.
Its a risk, as soon as you jailbreak it you are -
1)susceptible to a new wave a viruses targeted at your iphone
2)Void any warrenty - probably will screw up the insurance to if you have to send it off, meaning your going to have to "loose it" or "have it stolen" if anything happens.
3)Can cause random bugs from what i've heard.
4)Any and all programs designed to do this are not legal, you dont know who made them and you dont know what sinister purpose its for - could be anything including keylogging.
On the plus -
1) free apps - some which are very expensive
2)a high degree of customisability - far more then apple allows
3) many new features developed by independent developers.
You just have to decide whether its worth the risk. For me its not, but i personally dont need any of the fancy apps or play any of the game which require you to pay money for things.
