Spurs v Bayern Munich 1983

A classic game from our illustrious history in European competition. In 1983 we were in the UEFA Cup & doing well. We had dispatched Drogheda United 14-0 on aggregate in the 1st round (in those days the UEFA Cup was a straight knockout competition with each round played over 2 legs. Personally I feel they have cheapened it with this whole league business & I would much rather it returned to this sort of format, but anyway, I digress).

The 2nd round was much tougher opposition in Feyenoord, the very team who had defeated us in the 1974 UEFA Cup final 10 years earlier. I guess we had a point to prove cos the lads swept them aside 6-2 on aggregate.

Things had been going great until we ran up against European powerhouse Bayern Munich in the 3rd round. It was a difficult tie & it was made even tougher after they defeated us 1-0 in the first leg in Germany. We had it all to do in the 2nd leg but this time it was at our gaff. . .

Danny Thomas, what a fvcking great full back

Terrible shame what happened to Danny. He should've been our full-back for many years.

I'll always remember his log walk back to the halfway line at WHL after missing his penalty in the final of this competition & then his sheer & utter joy as Tony saved Anderlecht's, with the Yiddo's singing Danny's name loud & proud!

remember it well, stood on the shelf for the entire 120 mins, then got in to Paxton for the pens. Also remember Hod the God dedicating his and Waddle's goals against Wombles in the FA Cup to Danny. Was physio at Baggies, is he still there?

I don't think so. I heard he now has a private practice or something, so I doubt he'd be able to do that & be a physio for WBA
