For anyone who is yet to witness the brilliance of Keith Burkinshaw's Tottenham team, Hoddle, Ardiles, Archibald, Crooks, Clemence, Galvin, Perryman, Hughton - all class (& just take a look at that Chelsea team, lol, who???)

& For anyone who remembers this team, this game even, or, like me, grew up watching them play. The 80's were full of proper Spurs teams & the team of '82 were certainly among them.

THAT goal from Hoddle . . . PROPER Tottenham

Thanks Bass, being a relatively new supporter of Spurs I could only take what others said for truth. That clip justified all that was said about the style Tottenham plays. Attacking, creative, daring through and through.

I was at that game at Stamford Bridge - thanks for the link!

That Spurs team really was very good indeed - perhaps in terms of the trophies amassed under Keith Burkinshaw we actually under-achieved slightly.

What a cracking game. That 17 year old goalkeeper had the game of his life! A bit unfair to put him in the 6th round of such a high-profile cup though lol.

Great play by Hoddle. It's like he scored all three, not just assisted with them :P
You know what, my Uncle thinks of Modric as the next-gen Glen Hoddle and I can see the similarities.

Also, Ardiles had such pace on him, the number 7 on his shirt made me think 'Lennon' a little bit.

Modric doesn't have the shooting skills of Hoddle, sadly. Between Modric & Kranjcar you're getting close but really, Hoddle was in a world of his own. That 1 player inspired so many kids to support Spurs & every one of them would pretend to be Hoddle in the playgrounds.

Ardiles was an amazing player , altho I wouldn't compare him with Lennon either. In fact he was more similar to Modric, if we're comparing with the modern Spurs side. However, Hoddle just had that something about him that made him stand out. It was the way how, while everything zipped & whizzed around him at terrific pace, he seemed to just be having a stroll & somehow have 10x more time on the ball than anyone else on the pitch. And I don't believe anyone, before or since, had so many different & unique ways of striking a football. Beckham has his "lean", Ronaldo his ankle flick, but Hoddle had many techniques & they were all unique to him, even now, & you just never knew what was coming. Unbelievable player &, in my view, the best England has EVER produced.

He made the game look so easy. What a team that was, hopefully the 2010-onwards team can win a few cups just like the team of the early 80's

I was there as well, in fact I've just referred to this game in another thread.

Something about that era of spurs that I just don't feel in the modern day game.

Brilliant Vid thanks Bass, I too was there, as part of the 14,000 as a 13 year old.

Have to say that I agree with everything you say about Hoddle, sheer class, his best days were wasted by England, even on his debut he scored a wonder goal against Bulgaria, but never got the amount of caps his talent deserved ( I think the manager at the time was Ron Greenwood) the national side should have been built around him. So much time on the ball and he could pick a pass with either foot.

Like others it seems that football was a lot purer in those days, muddy pitches, standing on the terraces and on more occasions than not being able to wander up to the ground on a matchday and just pay on the gate.

Some things have got a lot better however and this video shows the distasteful racism that was present at the time, you only have to listen to the crowd when Crooks gets the ball to hear what I mean.
