David scored a cracker of a free-kick yesterday only for Sky to mark it down as an OG!!
It is almost certain to go to the Dubious Goals Committee but really, any other decision other than to award the goal to Bentley would be a tragedy.
His free kick was hit brilliantly and, if Kirkland had not been there, it would've crashed into the top corner unaided. However, Kirkland was there but, despite his best efforts, he still could not keep it out.
There is no set rule to decide who should be awarded a goal but the Premier League say the following:
"As a rule, if the initial attempt is goalbound it is credited to the player making the goal attempt. However if the deflection means that a wayward effort results in a goal then it is attributed to the player who had the last definitive touch of the ball."
By that statement I would say that the goal has to go to Bentley as his initial strike
was goal-bound. At the very least it is impossible to say that it would
not have gone in if Kirkland had not got his fingertips to it & the fact that the ball ended up in the net was solely because of the quality of Bentley's strike.
Nobody knows when the committee meet or even who they are but I want to get as many signatures as possible, as quickly as possible, & send it to the Premier League and to Spurs anyway in the hope that they take it into consideration.
They might do, they probably won't, but Bentley deserves that goal & if signing a piece of paper helps him get it, then my name will be there
