Thats all we did.
Long ball after long ball after long ball after long ball....
Not a big fan of that tactic.
I will say, though, that Crouch came close on 3 or 4 of those headers, including a goal. The tactic proved fruitful so why not give it a go?
I would guess that tactic is for when teams are playing very defensively and we can't break them down, it just gives us an extra option. And it worked today so fair play. As long as we don't start every game playing like that I don't mind.
"It's no use just winning, we've got to win well."
I think that's one of the most important things Harry has bought to the club. He is a football man, he knows better than anyone there are more than 1 ways to skin a cat... We have options now, and can play more than one style. The total football apporach isn't always going to win you matches, and id much rather we won ugly than came away with a point or nothing.
Can't smile without you

Dont get me wrong, I am all for having these options its just that our wingers looked like they had no plan or intention to do anything but lob it to the box in hope!
whatever gets the 3 points, i don't really care really. Of course beautiful football is a bonus.
For me it's about playing to our strengths. Without Crouch our strengths are passing and keeping the ball moving along the deck. When he comes on he gives us that extra option to go with high balls because of his aerial ability. To be honest when Modders went off today we didn't have much strength because we rely on him a lot when it comes to retaining and building up possession, so that's why 'Arry brought on Crouch, so that we could play to a different strength, aerial ability.
COME ON YOU SPURS!!!
It worked today and will work many times more. I would much rather 3 points than play attractive football for a whole game and draw. Don't get me wrong I love watching spurs play good football but there's times when more effective football is needed.
As I say if Crouch is in the game we loose possesion and look at the 2. half wen wi didn't have as mutch possesion as in the 1. half! Birmingham had their chanches where as the team from the 1. half gave them only 1-2 chanches. Fore me it is more important to have a stronge defensiv ability than the cahance to score from na set piece. If we ar chasing a result in the 2. half Crouch ok.
im not a real fan of long ball either, but if you have got a good cross to the tallest man in the prem who can header it into the back of the net then than has got my thumbs up for sure.
since when did people consider crosses to be long balls?
Good Evening, we won. In previous seasons especially under
Wendy we would probably have lost that game. Sometimes it
is just about getting those three points...
When Crouch come on the game changed for the good.
The long ball worked, he won 80% of headers thus setting up many attacks.
When a team plays defensive and there is no way thru the floor, go long![]()
"Modric could play in any team in the world in my opinion, he's a fantastic footballer, top, top class."
Winning ugly is something we have not been know for.
We have just won 2 ugly on the bounce.
I don't want a full season of winning like that but a good team win when they play badly (actually yes I do as we would win the league).
As for smashing balls into the tallest player in the premiership in the air................Playing to your strengths maybe.
Or
Utilising all of your options to break down a stubborn defensive side that had shut up shop from the 1st minute.
I personally think we were forced into that situation because of the injuries or we would have stuck with Modders and tried to open them up with our superior passing as it was starting to work.
Great result but we will have to be bang up for the Mancs game or we'll come crashing down to earth with a bump big time.
