Our 4th game of the season sees us host newly promoted Birmingham City at the Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Before we were able to concentrate on Birmingham, we had a tricky away Carling Cup tie to Doncaster Rovers. It was an enthralling match, which was best summed up by the Radio 5 Live commentator saying “this could easily be 9-4, its been that good.” We eventually ran out 5-1 winners, which was probably a little harsh on the hosts as they played their part in what was probably the game of the round. After 3 wonderful saves by Cudicini, Huddlestone opened the scoring for us on 10 minutes followed 2 minutes later by a good strike by Jamie O’hara. Peter Crouch got his first goal in our colours before half time and after the re-start Bentley made it 4. this was probably the worst thing that could happen for us, as after that Doncaster seemed to get a second wind, coming close with an effort hitting the bar, before they were awarded a penalty for a hand ball by Boateng which was dispatched by Martin Woods. In a terrific game of football, with chances at either end, Pavlychenko restored our 4 goal advantage, as we go through to the third round of the competition. Like many predicted, ‘Arry Redknapp rang the changes with players like, Button, Hutton, Naughton, Dos Santos, Rose, O’hara, Boateng, Bentley, Crouch and Pavlychenko all seeing some action as he rested some of the players who had played our 3 premier league games in the space of a week. I can’t stress how entertaining this game was, with both teams not content with what they had and producing a real spectical for the fans.
We are back to league football this weekend and hope that we can continue our reign at the top of the league and continue our 100% record. This game comes at a very important time in our campaign, as after the International break, following this game we then host premier league holders Man United then travel away to title favourites Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Many believe that Man City and we are best placed to break the traditional “top 4” and recent slip ups by Liverpool, Man United and Everton have just emphasised this belief . ‘Arry Redknapp has reiterated that this is our goal for the season, but has urged fans to take one game at a time. Our record against the “top 4” last season was impressive, winning 2, drawing 4 and losing only 2, thus amassing a total of 10 points out of a maximum 24. But before all of this we have to get by a hard working Birmingham City side.
Birmingham have unfortunately been tagged as a bit of a “yo-yo” side as the club as seen as many promotions as relegations in recent years. However, they have started life back in the top flight reasonably well. The fixture computer couldn’t have been any crueller on the newly promoted side as they faced a trip to Old Trafford on the opening day. They received many plaudits for their display that day, even though they eventually ran out 1-0 losers, due to their work rate and commitment. Since then they have amassed 4 points so far, notching up their first win of the season at home to a struggling Pompey side, then playing out the leagues first draw of the season after hosting the physical side of Stoke City.
Expected line ups:
Tottenham: Cudicini, Corluka, King, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Palacios, Huddlestone, Modric, Keane, Defoe
Birmingham: Hart, Parnaby, Queudrue, Johnson, Carr, Bowyer, Ferguson, Carsley, Fahey, McFadden, Jerome
Predicted score line:
2-0
(EDIT: Thanks to Yidington for pointing out my mistake which i have rectified......)

3-0
Hopefully we'll see a clean sheet this game.
We NEED a clean sheet.
Don't expect us to win this so easily![]()
"Modric could play in any team in the world in my opinion, he's a fantastic footballer, top, top class."
no mate....wasn't going to make myself look a mug....!!!
did some research.....
Win I don't care how just win.
From what I wave seen against Man utd Birmingham like to play football whitch is good because they don't play football better than us.
We can concede in every match for all I care as long as we win.
"You score goals as a kid. Then you grow up stupid and become a goalkeeper."
other teams need to fear WHL as a hard place to score goals
yeah dident we have the best home record last season? Correct me if i'm wrong.
this is pro gonna be the most difficult game so far imo , will have to be v carefull not to get complacent , hopefully a home win tho
maybe im missing something but i dont see too much of a challenge here. We are clearly the better side and this match is at home. I respect what these promoted teams have done thus far in the season but I think we are in too good of form to drop points here. 2 or 3 goals without conceding seems realistic to me. I just don't think Birmingham have the back line to stop the likes of Lennon, Defoe, Keane, Modric, Crouch, Pav etcc.
