I keep reading articles where people seem to have the opinion that our success so far is down to us splashing the cash.
Now, there is no doubt that we have been one of the league's biggest spender's over the years but I don't think it's fair to claim that our riches are the reason behind our form.
This summer our biggest transfer has been Peter Crouch &, at £9m, that one can hardly be considered amongst the league's larger moves. Other than Peter we have spent & £8m on Bassong & a combined £10m for Kyle X & Y.
Altho it is a healthy amount to spend, it is not significantly more than our rivals & is nothing to do with our sudden on-field success. If our form has to do with our transfers it is because we have bought intelligently, not expensively.
Even our expenditure in previous windows can be explained largely by our sales & much of the 'big money' spent in the january window was already accounted for. People seem to like to point out that Harry spent big last winter & refer to the Defoe & Keane deals but really, it was only the Palacios purchase that was of any real financial importance. As we well know, virtually all of Defoe's fee was covered by what Pompey already owed us from several previous deals & Keano's was wiped clean from his own move in the opposite direction 6 months earlier. We actually made a little bit of money from Robbie's return!
I've heard a few people putting us in the same sentence as Manchester City, which is what I find particularly unfair. They say that Spurs & City are benefitting from being the EPL's big spenders but we are nothing like City in that respect & I resent the comparison a little.
Their front 2 of Tevez & Adebeyor cost more than the entire Spurs XI that started against West Ham on Sunday! Yes, we have some big money players in the likes of Defoe, Keane, Modric & Palacios but we also have plenty more obtained for more reasonable sums: Aaron Lennon cost us just £1m, Huddlestone cost us a maximum of £3.5m, Cudicini was free, King was free, Ekotto cost us £3m and so on.
However, the most important thing for me anyway is not what we payed for the players but what we pay the players. Yes our collective value was nearly double that of West ham's but our player's salaries are in some cases just half of what they pay. We have some of the least generous wage packets in the whole league & I think that sys far more about our players than their respective transfer fees.

Will we stay or will we go now?
Will we stay or will we go now?
If we go there will be trouble
and if we stay we'll do the double
So Levy has got let us know
Will we stay or will we go!

Theres no doubt without the millions that have been shoveled into the team we wouldnt be in the positition we are now in, i put alot of our current form down to Harry ofcourse but we have payed out shed loads on players and while not on the same level as city we are one of the top spenders in the Prem.
The spending is getting less now, not because of the stadium but because of 'Arry I believe. Look at the amount of rubbish Camolli brought in for inflated prices.
We've spent far too much in recent years on sh*te, i think 'Arry is having his burst of big spending in getting his squad together then we will really tighten up our purses with the stadium on its way, and bring through some youth in the process. Looking forward to the next few years, Viva La Revolucion
Yeah, I totally agree with that but I don't think that, after you factor in both our low wages & the money we've brought in from sales, we spend significantly more than our rivals for people to imply it is the only reason we have started better than the other teams around us.
In fact, we have spent less this time than usual so you could argue the exact opposite.
Either way, to talk about us in the same bracket as City is plain ridiculous & that's what really gets my goat

Last season I could vaguely understand this branding, but this season I cant see it, granted we have spent more than Everton and Villa and are clearly doing better than them, but we havent spent excessively at all this season. And to put our form down to the big money spending is laughable, Bassong was the only brand new signing who has played a big part in the first three games, the team is a settled side that carries last seasons form, we have invested wisely and if we have the mone why not?
Dont worry about everyone saying this. They are plain jealous!![]()
Can't smile without you!
For once we ave spent wisely and not invested in crap. Thank Lord Harry.
"Modric could play in any team in the world in my opinion, he's a fantastic footballer, top, top class."
Didnt our transfers wipe their own nose last year?
We have been far from frivalous this year, but arnt finished yet.
A few out and a few in imo.
Look at those who havent featured yet to be on the out list and a combative CM and a LM to come in.
city has spent 205M sterling in a year

I think our form is better because no 1 harry and no 2 we are a more settled team. The last few seasons we have had too many players in and out.THis year bassong and crouch are our only majour signings.Happy daysssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
I think it is a real testament to what kind of Class we actually had at the club already. Harry just seems to get the most of out all of his players. Guys like Hutton, Corluka, Jenas, Hudd, O'Hara, etc. have all been better since Harry arrived. Maybe that just shows how guys like Jol and Ramos werent getting the most out of their players.
Tottenham have spent over £100 mil more than the scum over the last 10 years because of fans pressure for success , this has caused managers in and out plus players being sold before being settled in . You may as well have put a revolving door where the gates are . Now Levy has taken drastic action , we have got rid of the rotten apple (Commoli) and a manager that couldn't speak English , and brought in a seasoned manager who has run premiership clubs on his bargaining skills as well as his football nous . Now i know that people were squabbling over the sale of Bent , but you have to ask the question - how the hell would he fit in with this playing system .
You also have to look at the fact that we are still sticking with our traditions of buying many English players , something that Harry has to bear in mind when seeking out new talent . Buying English players is more expensive than foriegn players and this goes some way to explain why we have spent all that money .
Right here's the juicy bit = ( start of rant ) We are not in debt , so why the hell shouldnt we spend our money to get better players or more players = at least its our own money and we're not running our club on borrowed money , unlike the so called top 4 . If a rule was brought in that clubs have to run on Club revenue only we would have been in the top 4 many years ago . So when people say that we have spent fortunes on players , the answer to that is we have spent our fortunes and not somebody elses .( rant over )
I feel better for that

Well i can say thet we haven't always spent money on the right players. And i see us improving big there. The problem in the transfer polici is changes of managers. If Harry holds on to Tottenham for the next 2-3 jears we will improve in that segment. But now it's not the thing to buy players but to mainly keep our best players Modric etc. And with busting our weakest positions with one ore two player a season would be superb.
